Carson City began as a rustic frontier town and has grown to become the capital of the state of Nevada filled with history, museums, events and lots more including the Kit Carson Trail, which is one of the largest historical residential districts in the West. There are several interesting museums to visit like the Nevada State Railroad Museum with its collection of historic railroad cars and equipment; the Nevada State Museum that was once home to the U.S. Mint; and the Nevada Children's museum with its interactive exhibits that are great fun for the kids. Also nearby are nine world class golf courses. The area is also known for skiing and water sports and is located just a short distance from Lake Tahoe.
