The proximity to the Giants Stadium. The hotel was dangerously not clean. Who know what you could catch in that hotel.
Proximity to family we were visiting, that's about the only plus. This place is so dumpy....room was very dated and dirty. Tub would not drain when we attempted to shower. Im not a fan of standing in sewage but the front desk employee thought it was ok. He put Drano down the drain but didnt help. I told him this aint right he said "what do u want me to do about it". Mold and mildew all around the tub plus the room smelled. Hallway smelled like skunk pee and beer. Multiple hand size holes in the walls. Door had been broken into and cheaply repaired/painted. Multiple cigarette burns on conforter. Dirty sheets. Dust everywhere. Perimeter doors of building open/unlocked. Very shady area. We booked thru hotels.com. we did get our money $130/night back after excessive complaints. Sign said $70 out front. We asked to change rooms but told sold out. Wow i feel sorry for the rest. We went to another hotel and was told that the howard johnson did rent rooms out for 4 hrs if needed and bad stuff goes on there. Hint hooker stop. This was August 7,2015.
If you are looking for budget, this would be it. There was no security for the building.
comfortable, economic, safe
Very close to my work location. Saved me having to drive back and forth from Brooklyn. Somewhat dingey and unkept. Expensive considering the condition and unpleasant environment.
The area The room
Overall pricing was fair. Proximity to a major highway and road noise. Unhelpful staff for organising taxis and transfers etc. Incorrect room rate charged initially which had to be challenged. No meal plan.
Receptionist was courteous. The hallway smelled bad. There were only 2 very flat pillows when we mentioned that to staff their response was 2people 2pillows. Towels had holes in them.
There were restaurant options wishing short driving distance. Seriously run down hotel. My room had a large broken window (missing the entire pane of glass). They covered this with cardboard and tape. It was near the entrance. Felt very unsafe. I notified the front desk and they asked if I really thought it was a problem. Apparently it had been like that for several weeks. Yikes!!!
It was Quiet. It was convienent. It was unclean. Bath room floor was tackey to walk on. Tub edge had burn marks and the was an undiscribable substance smeard on a bathroom wall.
they did not find our reservertion a did not give the room we reserve ....very disapointing
price Dirty, noisy, very old building and the smell was almost unbearable. NOT a place to bring children.
Location. Easy on and off rt3 Was a non smoking room I thought, smelled of smoke Black mold on sink rim and shower head.
Otherwise we had a pleasant stay. Liked having Red Robin connection. Would go back. People were too loud in the hallway. Children running in the hallway. Our toilet had a seat that kept slipping when sat on. Otherwise we had a pleasant stay. Liked having Red Robin connection. Would go back.
Room comfortable, staff courteous and helpful, location great Only one elevator working, room a little noisy (room heater and pool mechanicals I think), teenagers running in the hallway, talking loudly and slamming doors, housekeeping staff threw away my bed socks that I left in the bed.
The cleanliness Staff attitude and people skills sucked
The room was recently refurbished and mostly nice Bathroom door was damaged, whole room smelled of paint, the whole building was under construction which was loud. The workers smoked in the hallway. I caught the receptionist asleep twice. Once when I was trying to check out around 6AM. She actually had headphones in so I had to scream to wake her up so that I could check out. The pool was not accessible due to the construction. The breakfast was waffles, bagels, and yogurt. I was just really not pleased with this stay.
We had issues with our room and the daytime staff was very helpful. They moved us to a new room, which had an issue too, but Elly did everything she could to make it right. Overnight staff was rude.
Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, large clean room, enclosed safe parking Slight lack of noise insulation from overhead room and outside traffic.
the size of the room, the fact that there was a fridge and a microwave in our room they advertised a shuttle to the airport, but it didn't run on weekends, and it cost $10 pp, The area around the hotel is not that great.
non smoking room, did have a bad smell of old smoking room.
Nothing The service was poor, it was a very unclean facility, and the would not recommend this is place to anyone.
Concierge Service on the 9th floor was super! Expensive restaurant in hotel with very poor service.
Arrived late and called the hotel about the shuttle from Newark airport, was told it was on its way. 1 hour later was told it was stuck in traffic, so caught a cab and was there in 10 minutes, didn't see much traffic anywhere.
Easy access to trains, Amtrak & PATH. Food was good. Service very good. Staff very good and nice. Very secure. The room door was slightly off kilter so it made a lot of noise when shutting
We enjoyed how large the rooms were for the price we paid. Also conveniently located next to Penn Station.
It's quite convenient, although the area isn't great. Staff was rude. They need to learn how to smile because their vibe was negative.
No running water. Not advertised at the time of booking although they knew there was a scheduled outage for repairs. Had to check out, get reimbursed and go to another hotel upon learning that there was no running water at check in.
I did like the access to the New Jersey Transit and airport. There are some resturants and shops in the building to pick up anything needed. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful to any questions we had. I did not like a few things in our room, such as, no place to hang a hand towel, the sink counter was badly cracked with a poor fix job, and the hair dryer was very old and weak. It seemed as a left over from another guest. The safety is questionable. I was there with my husband and felt okay but we both felt uncomfortable at times. I would not recommend staying alone or walking the streets at night. If you are there to visit NYC, I highly recommend staying in the city over NJ. With the cost of transportation and time back and forth, you waste time and money.
The bed was comfortable and stay was good. Don't order order room service . The food was terrible.
The staff were very helpful, they were particularly friendly in the Market Grill where we had breakfast on 2 mornings. Beautiful room, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Usually we stay in Manhattan when we visit New York but this hotel offered a great alternative. It was very cost effective as it was $10 return from the station to Penn Station New York [34th Street near Macys] Our room was not ready when we arrived and even when we came back at 11pm, we then had to wait on the bell hop to bring it up. Think this should have been done. The Starbucks attached to the Lobby only opened Monday to Friday and even then closed at 7 pm. The walkway from the train station to the hotel was closed each evening when we returned from the city meaning that we had to go outside of the station and cross the road to access the hotel lobby. During this we were stopped several times by people asking for money.
Clean, very close to train station. Don't expect to check in before 3pm. Breakfast in the restaurant was terrible. Got the corn beef hash... by far the worse I've ever had.... tremendously overpriced for the quality of food. You will hear the honking from the traffic until approx. 10pm. The area surrounding the hotel is not nice... I would recommend not walking around much.
It has a very convenient location near the train station that made our trip in and out of New York easy. There was some difficulty in confirming a taxi booking to go to an event.
Comfortable bed nice staff Needs to be renovated in areas
Synd. Skapar inte förtroende för personalen
I like that this is a pretty consistent hotel. I've stayed in Doubletrees all over the country and the staff is always friendly, the beds are typically very comfortable and the rooms etc. are always clean. I don't think that customers staying in the hotel should have to pay for parking. It is outrageous to have to make that extra payment when you're already paying a pretty good amount to stay there. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have affordable food in the restaurant. Since you don't have a free breakfast, at least make it affordable.
Value, and great view inside from inside balcony Got off elevator and looked for room. Sign said rooms 501-527 left and 529-549 right. My room was 528. Figure that out. It was around 2 corners, but room was great in the end.
The hotel was comfortable and had all the amenities one could need. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to check-in before 11 a.m. without an additional fee, took advantage of the free shuttle to the airport several times to get to the Amtrak station and head into New York City. When our room keys stopped working at we went to the front desk for assistance, not only did the clerk apologize for the inconvenience, but she advised that if it should happen again, we didn't need to return to the front desk. Instead, we could call from a house phone near the elevator on our floor and they would send someone up to assist us. This hotel provided great value for the price and I would definitely stay there again. When I checked out, I inquired about paying for parking. I was told that I would need to pay at the gate when I left since there were no charges on my room bill. However, I was not advised until I pulled up to the gate that they only accept cash there. Luckily, I had enough cash on hand to pay for my 2 nights of parking, but it would've been nice to have the opportunity to pay by credit card or at least forewarning that only cash is accepted at the gate.
Bed was comfertable, room was clean Wall plugs far from bed Showerhead did not function well
Shuttle service to and from airport prompt No breakfast provide unlike most in area
Perfect hotel stay. Everything was lovely from the pool, to our hotel room, to the staff. They even welcome you with hot cookies! The best part is the Hilton Double tree is inexpensive :)
The only reason I was at this hotel is because I missed my connection and was rebooked to leave very early the next morning. The airline did not cover the cost of the stay so I had a choice and picked the Doubletree. From booking to check out the stay was a disaster. The shuttle took over 30 minutes because no one at the hotel notified him people were waiting. Upon check in at 11:30 pm I asked for a 4 am wake up call. I confirmed it before I went to my room. At this point, my phone is completely dead, it wouldn't even turn on. I literally plugged it in and fell into bed. The wake up call never came, but thankfully, due to a a leaky faucet that dripped all night long, I never fell deeply asleep and happened to check my watch at 4:18 am. I got ready and went to the lobby to get coffee, which was supposed to be there 24/7 according to the person who checked me in-- nope, coffee service doesn't start until 6:00 am, a change was made last week. If you are stuck at Newark and are looking for a place ro stay, go somewhere else!
Everythings good, thank's!! The room is a little old but everything works and very clean!!
Convenient location to the airport and decent shuttle. The warm cookie is always good. The room was not in good shape. The chairs had big stains on them and things were falling apart. When I checked out and showed the front desk person the pictures of the problems of the room she did not apologize but just glanced at it and said she would tell housekeeping.
Bra frukost ingår i priset. Restaurangen är inte att rekommendera.
Jättetrevligt rum, rent och fräscht. Bra frukost. Lite oklart hur det fungerade med shuttlen till hotellet och vi fick vänta väldigt länge, vilket var jobbigt eftersom det var sent på kvällen.
Airport shuttle is every 30 min right on time! Staff is friendly! Clean rooms and bathroom. Everything that you expect from Marriott only thing I would add is a water fountain by the ice machine.
Liked the room, balcony, pool and fitness room Too difficult to get to, walls were very thin and you have to pay for breakfast and coffee.
We experience a problem with our room which we brought to the attention of the weekend night manager The Weeknd manager change the room immediately she informed me that a manager would be contacting me to address my concerns about the room which did not happen. On checkout I brought my concerns up to the front desk manager which in short blamed me for the problem with the room
No hot water in bathroom sink and room heater was not working...switching rooms not an option because hotel was fully booked
Nära till outleten Jersey Garden, gångavstånd. Smidigt med hämtning/lämning på Newark-flygplatsen. Hyfsat tyst trots alla flyg som lyfter just över taket.
Alt annat OK.
Nothing at all The worst hotel i have ever seen in my entire life.. it was so smelly and dirtiest hotel.. and the area was so backward and dangerous. Very poor rating from my side.
Last minute booking, and this was literally the only available hotel in the area in our price range. It was very old and outdated, but the room was clean and we didn't see any bugs or mice as other reviewers said. They told us not to park on the street or our car would be broken into. We didn't get murdered or even robbed! The hotel was in a horrible area and we were fearful for our lives the entire night. Needless to say, not the most restful sleep we've had. While we were checking in, we overheard another guest say that her room was broken into and things were stolen.
Staff was OK No Wi-fi, although it was stated that they did have Wi-fi. Also, was disappointed that they charged for parking, which was not mentioned in their ad. I have never paid for parking at a hotel, or motel, in my life. Also, the area of the hotel is not the best place for feeling safe.
It's in a dangerous location, straight ghetto. It smells, and is not clean.
Very clean, cool old building. Very friendly Lobby smelled like cigarettes
Nothing. Bullet holes, receptionist behind bulletproof glass, thugs living in apartments below that came from prison, history of murder, ect. Just don't even think about booking this place if you want to make it out alive.
The view was surprisingly nice, hardwood floors, decently comfortable bed, easy check in Half drank water bottle in the fridge, what appeared to be bullet holes in the elavator, advertised at $60 but I paid $85 after taxes.
There were hardly things to like in the hotel except the vintage building. Locality is not safe to walk, elevator is very old and very clean, hotel beds are not comfortable, room amenities are old.
Cool hotel Roaches
Room had no curtains broken blinds Broken utilities Not a safe place to stay because of the neighborhood the hotel is in
Very nasty place Not good to say about it
One staff member was pleasurable & attentive. Poor service, pictures online look noting like the hotel, unclean & poorly maintained facility. No amenities. I would rather stay at Motel 6!
The hotel staff & dining can't think of anything
Access to everything Fixures in the room needed maintenance
good overnight with early morning flight departure. Enjoyed lobby bar with good accompanying menu -- not a bad place to hang out and unwind. Staff was friendly and accomodating, keeping their cool during a substantive number o all-at-once check-ins. Shuttle from airport terminal departs from the extreme end of the airport, which depending on your arrival
Friendly staff Bath room old fashioned, Car Parking very expensive
Room was clean and spacious. Comfortable. Original parking lot wasn't working and had to park in the guest parking, which was completely packed. Only good thing was that instead of paying $20 for parking, I only paid $15 plus fees. Ridiculous that we have to pay for parking, even with a room. Pantry area was almost empty with no variety,
Not too many shops
I needed a hotel close to Newark airport, this hotel is clean and Comfort. the transportation from the hotel to the airport is easy by car or you can take a taxi. the hotel is not good for holiday or fun, it is just for stay the night close to airport.
Great location for use of Newark airport. Great staff! Nothing
Clean Not enough mirrors you couldn't chill wroth your friends because the walls are paper thin
For of all this app said that the Hilton had a spa and that was a lie !!! Also the indoor pool was dirty! The customer service was shitty. & to top it off we had to pay for parking which was $20.
The staff is extremely helpfull and friendly, special in the restraurant. Parking was free!
Bra hotel och nära till flygplatsen. Gratis buss till och från flygplatsen. Bra frukost.
Quietness and the courtesy shattle to and from the airport Yes, I don't take coffee but that is the only drink provided by the hotel and the brakefast there is too expensive.
Clean and silent rooms and wireless free internet are very useful for travel in business Carefull with hidden costs for things that in other regular hotels are included. Breakfast: low quality and room not very clean
The ease of access from EWR airport. the people are not friendly. they do not welcome you as a customer.
Reliable airport shuttle. Good restaurant. Couldn't work the coffee-maker.
We enjoyed the comfort of our room and appreciated the 24/7 gym & swimming pool. Also, having a courtesy shuttel is much appreciated. We wished we could have ordered food after 23h00 and that some movies (even old releases) were available without paying extra fees.
Hotel is alright. Gym is good and has equipment for about 7 people at the same time. The wee shop where you can buy food is open 24/7 and has good food in it.Free Internet is fast.Shuttle Bus drivers are friendly. Is worth its money if you book online and don't pay more than 100 bux. People at the reception are not really friendly - as mentioned before by other travelers. Though they are helpful.
We found our room to be very comfortable and clean. The price was definitely reasonable. The hotel's facilities are excellent. Front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful.
I grew up living in Newark and I remember it being a bank many years ago. Very nice upgrade. There no face towels in my bath when I jumped in the shower. That sucks.
The view was gorgeous and the room had some nice, high tech features. I enjoyed the clean style.
I loved the style of the hotel and how clean it was and all of the updates it had and everything. The only thing that turned me off was the staff. Although super nice they are SUPER lazy. I have gone to plenty of other hotels and when I ask for something they send someone up to the room with it. Nope not these people, he told me to come down to the desk and get it myself unless I wanted to wait a while. (I was also on the 11th floor and just got back from a 6 hour car ride, but I went down there anyway) overall I don't think this room was worth what I paid for especially because it is in such a bad area. There are plenty of other hotels that are just as clean and are cheaper.
Helpful staff. Great food at Teds! The shabby leather chairs in reception don't reflect the overall quality of the hotel.
Hotel shuttle was there to pick us up just before midnight (plane was very late) and although there was a queue, we were checked in within an appropriate timeframe. Check in staff were prompt and efficient, useful that there was a 24/7 concession stand within the lobby (after a late night flight, you want to eat just not in a restaurant). Door deadlock didn't bolt, had to have someone come and fiddle with it; housekeeping failed to clean room and management blamed me for not being out at 8am - it would be good to have a "come clean room please"sign to put on door to make life easier for housekeeping. Front desk staff (apart from check-in) were appalling rude, but you get what you pay for.
Close to Airport , Friendly staff, Good restaurant WIFI was poor on 8th floor . Could not surf internet properly.
I liked that it had shuttle No pool or jacuzzi for the prize
Staff and facility was good. With the location, having a restaurant in-house was very helpful. The area is a tangle of highways and the hotel's road is accessible only from the highway, no back way in. We left to find gas and it took us an HOUR to find our way back!
Parking was not included
I like the room, the entry, people are nice. Parking out of your pocket over night $15.25...:(
We arrived much later than expected at Newark Airport. Fortunately for us, their airport transportation runs 24 hours. Called the front desk a couple of times about the transportation and they were always nice. It was also good to see a 24 hour pantry stocked with some pretty decent quality foods and baked goods, as all the airport concessions had closed with our late arrival. Our room was clean, modern, and nicely appointed. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel. Food in aforementioned pantry was a bit pricey. Bathroom fixtures needed some repair, but admittedly I forgot to tell them when I checked out. Location of the hotel not the greatest if you want to walk out of hotel grounds.
Apathetic, robotic staff that did nothing to accommodate traveler that encountered a major issue
Location very convenient
The room was clean. It appears to have been upgraded and the AC was good. If you are there to work, it's quiet and a good place to stay as long as you are willing to put up with the staff's poor attitude. The staff was extremely rude. The fridge did not work and when I reported it to the desk clerk she asked "So... do you want me to send someone to fix it?" Really?! I wonder what she thought was the reason I told them it wasn't working and my drinks were warm. After reporting it three times I finally got maintenance in the room at 9:30 PM, the guy said he'd be back in 10 minutes and never came back. The next day I saw someone in the hallway and told him, he came over and brought a new fridge. More than 24 hours after I first asked for it to be fixed or replaced. I found all the staff to be rude and unwilling to help with the most simple request. There are no restaurants around so you are stuck paying an insulting high price for everything you eat or drink. The breakfast buffet is 14.95 plus tax and you have eggs, sausage and potatoes as "hot" food; fruit and french toast and muffins. Don't expect more.
Complimentary airport shuttle
This was my third stay at this hotel and even better than the last two. The rooms, lobby, and restaurant have been very tastefully redone. The room was very comfortable with HD TV. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Even though near the airport, my rooms have always been quiet.
The front desk personell was very friendly the room was nice overall hotel standards were very good.
Beware, renovation under way. Paint on carpets, in sinks.... smell is in the air. Not sure why I didn't know about the daily parking fee ($14).
Clean and affordable. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel in general which would include the room, lobby area, and the indoor pool. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and very accomodating when it came asking for directions, coordinating adjoining rooms, and providing additional services such as a roll away bed and blankets. Each time we came back to the hotel from our day or evening trips the front desk manager or clerks would ask how our day went. We enjoyed the flat screen, LCD T.V. and the variety of channels available for free viewing. The only downside to the hotel is that it's located right off the highway across from the airport which meant we were pretty much land locked which limited our dining choices without having to drive. The Perkins shuttle never showed so we ended up eating lunch the first day in the hotel restaurant. Being right off the highway also made it very challanging and confusing to get into the frontage road area where th ehotel is locat...
The room was pretty clean and adjacent to Newark Liberty International Airport. The view was just overlooking the parking lot. Nothing else. The lobby was very beautiful.
This hotel has been recently been renovated. The public areas on the first floor are very nice, and the quest rooms are very nice as well. My only negative comment (and it's very minor) is that the hallways in the guest room areas still need to be redone. The front desk and restaurant staff's are very friendly and accommodating.
I am very picky, about clean, germs when it comes to hotels. the staff was friendly, from the valet to restaurant staff. the room was clean. i would go back and stay there again.
I arrived at 2 pm only to be told to wait an hour. Upon returning at 3 I was told the room wasnt ready and I could have a double bed. I refused and was told by the manager YOU CANT EXPECT US TO RUSH OUR STAFF. My toilet was broken. I was charged 3 TIMES for the same thing. Then I was told the only thing that can be done is a FREE DINNER....unacceptable treatment and horrible attitudes
If you have a choice I wouldnt stay here. The surrounding area is horrible. Also, very very hard to find and easy to get lost in an area I dont feel safe in. The hotel is just average, the staff is just ok. Absolutely no restaurants in the vicinity so you are forced to eat at the hotel for mediocre food. Meeting rooms had leaking ceiling, where water came through like rain! Parking for hotel guests is expensive! Unfortunately I had to stay here for a meeting, if I had a choice I would not stay here!
Some hotels have gorgeous communal areas, such as the lobby, and the lounge, but a different standard for their rooms. Renaissance Newark Airport had beautiful areas that were communal, and their rooms were of the same high standard. Bed was comfortable, and warm. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was accommodating and friendly. Shuttle to and from the airport is a plus. Many airline staff stay at the hotel, so the morning shuttle filled up fast, but another shuttle was dispatched right away, to pick up the overflow of passengers. I would stay here each time I'm in the area. Not just a good value, but a great place to stay, meet, eat, hold a conference, etc.
First of all, I am a veteran traveler. I used to travel for a living, spending more than 200 nights a year in hotels. What upsets me about any poor service experience is that it is relatively easy to avoid with good training and good management.\n\nI checked into the Doubletree Newark Airport after 11pm on the 13th of December. If I didn't already know they had a shuttle from the airport, there would have been no way to know they had one running. In the terminal and also at the P4 shuttle pick-up area, the hotel is not displayed on the courtesy phone area. I ended up having to call the hotel to see if indeed there was a shuttle bus available. \n\nWhen I arrived at the property, there were 4 people behind the front desk but no one at the front door or any bell service available. I had numerous bags as I was returning from an overseas trip and had to secure the bell cart myself. I passed several staff members with this cart and no one offered to assist me. \n\nThe guestroom was fine, alt...
We needed a hotel not far from the airport as we had a 6:30 am flight the day after our stay. The staff at the Renaissance were incredibly helpful with any and all questions we had re: transportation, food, etc. Although we had a short night's sleep due to our obligations, it was completely restful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
