Plus: For the value of money, it's the best stay in Flam. The other hotels were so overpriced. Flam Hostel is basic but sufficiently comfortable for a night's stay. Bathroom is clean and modern. Did not expect a hostel to be this high quality probably because we never stayed in a hostel before. All the other hotels in Flam were fully booked.
Plus: Very clean. Food was fantastic. Staff were helpful. Also, could not beat the view. If you enjoy small towns and great views, this is the place for you.
Minus: The price was pretty high considering we had to share a bathroom and shower with others on the floor. Since the town is so small, they definitely have you trapped for their $35 dinner, but the food was great.
Plus: Gudvangen is at the end of a dead end road, so it's very quiet. The ferry from Flåm comes here, so there's a surprisingly large restaurant. OK breakfast. Beds comfortable, although the room was a bit too hot. As we often found, the double bed could be split into 2 single beds. We has a private shower and bathroom, which was well worth the extra cost.
Minus: No WiFi reception in the room. It's remote, but it's not a tourist trap (like Flåm).
Plus: I arrived at the Flam Train station in the evening time when buses were not running. All of the taxi services refused to pick me up. When I called the Gudvangen Fjordtell, Olaf was quick to offer assistance. He sent one of the hotel workers to come pick me up from the train station, free of charge. The entire staff is very generous and accommodating. Also - the hotel is conveniently located at the Gudvangen port and is surrounded by beautiful landscape! I would highly recommend anyone visiting the Flam/Gudvangen area to stay at this hotel!!!
Plus: Far prefer gudvangen to other areas like Flam or Voss. Great location for kayaking, hiking or to do the main fjord four. This is the only hotel there and very small town. Tons of tour groups come through in the morning and afternoon but it is nice and quiet in the evenings.
The staff was very accommodating and helpful and all spoke great English.
Had a fire going in the dining hall and the euro cup on for everyone to watch.
The room itself was superb. Love the Viking decor and grass covered roof.
Minus: Wifi did not work
Food available later in the evening (when my boat arrived) was very limited
Note that it is light most of the day in Norway in the summer and the window doesn't have a covering
Njut av din vistelse i Aurland när du bor på Gudvangen Fjordtell. Du kan varva ned med en drink i en bar/lounge innan du äter något gott på deras restaurang. Här erbjuds dessutom en snackbar/deli, en terrass och en trädgård.
Plus: Nestled between a river and waterfalls. Safe. Friedly staff.
Minus: No address provided. Some directions to find it in advance would be great. Its not difficult once you know: cross the river, walk away from the water, thru an intersection. A sign will be on your left. About a 20 min walk.
Plus: The view was wonderful! By far the most beautiful view I have ever had at a hotel. The rooms where nice with that price also! Over this place is great.
Minus: While I do not mind the walk some might complain. It was about 15 min from the main town, but for the view and hiking close by is worth it! This is country side Norway not 5th av. in New York.
Plus: Nice staff, beautiful property outside of town, quiet.
Minus: If you have a car, it's no problem, but it's about a half mile walk from the town. Also, they don't provide towels, but you can rent them for an extra fee.
Plus: Downstairs publc area comfortable. Short 10 min walk to tòwn. Bed and bedding good. Quiet area. Nice bathrooms and showeers
Minus: Everything too sparse. No hooks in bedroom to hang clothes orwet towels. No garbage can in room. No salt and peppeerin kitchen
Plus: This place is a 200 year old cabin with several rooms in a wonderful location. You have the mountains right in your backyard and a view of the stream from the kitchen.
The staff was nowhere to be seen during my stay.
Minus: The staircase to go upstairs is tiny but then again it's an old old cabin. The walk to the cabin is inconvenient as you have to walk on a dirt road. Not suitable for suitcases.
Plus: På nedervåningen allmän område bekväma. Kort 10 min promenad till tòwn. Säng och sängkläder bra. Lugnt område. Trevliga badrum och showeers
Minus: Allt för gles. Inga krokar i sovrummet att hänga kläder orwet handdukar. Inga sopor kan i rummet. Ingen aska och peppeerin kök
