Location was wonderful - no vehicle required, always felt safe, within a 1 min walk of almost everything you need - restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, bus stops, taxi stand, tourist ticket offices, etc. 5 min walk to the gorgeous promenade along the water, 10 min bus ride to central Funchal. If you don't feel that ambitious, you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the large bar/pool area with the lovely view towards the sea or visit the spa. My room was terrific - clean and comfortable, large, excellent A/C, awesome balcony with a great view, large bathroom with a bathtub, powerful shower, handy retractable clothes line over the tub. The breakfast buffet had a large variety of hot as well as cold foods. I loved my time here.

Access to the hotel is a little confusing and I think could be a challenge for mobility impaired persons. The address shows the road as Estrada Monumental but the driveway entrance (incredibly steep and curvy) to reception (and parking lot) is accessed from the road behind the hotel - R. Velha da Ajuda. You can get to the hotel reception from Estrada Monumental on foot but it requires a bit of an uphill obstacle course through the spa building or pool area to get there.
