Found the booking on line to be very good as you didnt have to leave any deposit and as long as you gave fair notice to cancel you could without any hassle. Not many bad points just observations really.not enough pictures of the rooms on line I do like to have an idea of what it may look like.however we were not dissapointed.
I liked its auhtneticity. I felt I was truly staying at an English country inn. The Sun Hotel has character and personality, including being the home of a folk music club, a treat I enjoyed to the utmost. No.
Town centre position and the room was on the ground floor as requested Because of the courtyard being used by many drinkers due to good weather and also a private function there was a lot of noise
A definite olde worlde feeling but with modern conveniences. The location is in the second most important Hertfordshire town for old buildings. We came here to celebrate New Year, there are excellent restaurants near by offering a great choice of styles. It really worked for us listening to the old year being rung out in the town square.
Very very noise in the morning (0500 AM) due to delivery of goods.
Its a brilliant convenient location to Hitchin village The ventilation in the bathroom wasnt good, so the smell in the bathroom and consquently in the room was not nice. But I have stayed in this hotel before and it was very good so I think it was just that room.
convenience went to Hitchin Folk club concert which is situated in the Sun Hotel Rooms and beds are small, our room was only set up for single occupancy
The generally relaxed atmospere and helpfulness of the staff made for a pleasant stay; the food was very good too. There wasn't anything that I really didn't like.
It was very old and had charm and the bed was comfortable. The corridors needed redecorating. My husband could not stand in the shower (it was too low) the loo roll was hard and there was no courtesy shampoo and conditioner in the room.
Fantastic location in heart of Hitchin. Trip was to co-incide with a visit to The Market Theatre which was just next door. Its the location that makes this so good and it is also fabulous value for money with a really good breakfast on offer. Main lounge and bar area in hotel very attractive and comfortable. Friendly staff. Probably the noisiest room I have ever stayed in. Woken up in the night by people in the courtyard several times. Then at around 4.30am next morning by bins being emptied and deliveries? and then again by cars outside and doors slamming. TV in the room was very old, no remote control and terrible reception. Also the bathroom had a broken shower riser and only one bath towel and one hand towel for two guests, the door was also very stiff. Finally the room was very hot with no air conditioning, forced to open small window which made the noise from outside even more obvious. Also service at the hotel bar was very slow. Having to keep approaching reception for staff. Parking facilities a bit limited for such a large hotel.
The hotel is quite lovely with a nice pub restaurant. Great value for money! Our room was filled with music and heavy bass from 7pm on saturday night. (From the disco next door) It did finish at 11ish but if I had wanted to relax in my room before dinner or watch TV I wouldn't have been able to. The room and corridors could do with painting. Breakfast was also a shambles. There were not enough staff and the waiter that was running breakfast was obviously annoyed and wasn't very polite or helpful. I had to ask him for everything and it seemed like we were being an inconvience. They seemed to be short of staff altogether as we had to wait 10 minutes before anyone came to reception (we eventually went to the bar to get someone!)
Really helpful staff, good food and menu. No parking but multistorey car park convenient to hotel. Near to cafes and restaurants on busy high street A little under-staffed - no-one on front desk to check you in early morning or evenings meaning you had to go into the adjoining bar to find a staff member.
The rooms were really comfortable and reasonably spacious. We were made to feel very welcome and this was one of the better places we have stayed in Hertford. Didn't really cater for our early start on Monday morning and at the advertised start to breakfast (7am). The chef hadn't turned up. Parking is in the nearby multi storey.
Convenient for my palce of work. Good access to cnetre of Hertford if you need it. No parking in street Parking was in a multistorey until I challenged that I had prebooked a space. the night staff guy was excellent. meet me at the door, jumped in my car (reason was it was a very hard location to find, remote from hotel and questionable security). Helped me with luggage and served me drink and meal and reception. He did well. Day staff not as good. Poor breakfast table. Good al a carte menu. During meal dray delivery. left doors opens to shopping street, cold air, left floor hatch open whilst blockinga ccess to door to bedroom with barrels and displaced furniture. Room was comfortable enough but areas that where dusty. Asked for breakfact refund as the room was with two brekfasts but was refused. Street and bar below rooms could b
Modern rooms No parking facilities
clean comfortable and well decorated also nicely presented no
Nice central hotell in the middle of Hertford. Can almost be to central in the weeknds with a nightclub in the bar. But a very nice hotel.
The rooms were good but no hairdryer We were not warned that the hotel was above one of the main nightclubs in Hertford. The Dj may as well set up in our room as until 2 in the morning the whole room vibrated and you could hear the music and dj clearly. Once the music stopped there was the noise of the Air conditioning unit for the night club outside our window that went on for another couple of hours. I did complain to the night receptionist, who politely told me that nothing could be done. The next morning we went down to breakfast to find a full blown party going on. A most disapointing visit.
The location of the hotel as it is central to the town We enjoyed our stay but there is a late bar which is very noisey on fri & sat Night. Not a problem for us at all but not best for a quiet stay if thats what your looking for, we had gone for a night out so for us was a brilliant end to our night!
Wonderful building Their internet was out and the staff had no idea how to check or what to do. They just keep insisting it should work... Great hotel physically but when you are inside the room, you realize no one has thought room layout from a business person's needs. I was taking a personla day but I am still a businessman and need to do work and have internet access...
Lovely looking hotel...nicely furnished Very happy with hotel in daytime however we returned from our night out to find a queue of people outside trying to get into the night club of which we were unaware...we were staying in room 106 which over looked the rear of the hotel but could still hear the music..it was a hot night so we needed the window open as fan in room was not working but couldnt as the noise was so loud..eventually it stopped..we opened window only to be woken up very early when the refrigeration/air con unit started up..a very loud drone.. When we complained about it on check out the girl said "oh must have been the kitchen" no apology no compensation..not great customer service in my opinion
Location was good except for parking; breakfast was good although topping up coffee was bizarre - why can't coffee pots be used rather than bringing new cups?! Papers on the table were nice. Window wouldn't close so we got the full brunt of the disco which we also were not warned about. 'Join us for a glass of champagne at our disco' is not viable as the noise levels were horrendous, slamming of doors dreadful and the bouncers ditsy. Staff and general manager promised, after a lengthy discussion, to not as a token of good will knock a percentage off the room; rather, a letter would be sent offering a free night in the future. That has not arrived nor has a reply requesting that an electric toothbrush left in the room would be posted on.
