Minus: Our flight landed after the location at the airport closed. We though that since we had done online check in we would still be able to pick up our car. We were wrong. When we arrived there was no car for us, no one at the counter who could help us, and even if there had been a car all of the exits were blocked so we wouldn't have been able to get out. We had to call several numbers and wait on hold for over half an hour before getting in touch with the national line. We were told there was nothing they could do for us until the location opened the next day but they would be able to cancel our reservation. The area we were visiting doesn't have other reliable means of transportation so we were stuck in the airport for over 2 hours just trying to find a way to get where we needed to go. They should at least have offered us an Uber/taxi credit but they said they could nothing to help us. We weren't the only travelers in this situation. There were two other individuals on our flight who had booked rentals from Alamo that were also stuck without a car, late at night, stranded at the airport.
Minus: Drivers door panel/window appeared to be a little dirty, it was late and I just needed to get going. But it appeared that these areas were not wiped down after the last use.
Plus: Staff was friendly and helpful.
Minus: Many parts of the interior were dirty and it REEKED of marijuana.

Minus: They could not provide a car at the airport location, because I wouldn’t put it on my credit card. They sent back to other locations within the city where debit cards are allowed. The problem they were all booked and airport location couldn’t or wouldn’t transfer the reservation. Not using them again!!!

What is the point of making a reservation?
Plus: It was very easy to rent and everyone who I dealt with was very nice and friendly I had no trouble at all, but those other rental companies in there they are trash in that Memphis airport rental area, they don’t care for the customers

Minus: Well, it is COVID, so I understand that maybe there are fewer people to work, etc. But I did have to wait over 20 minutes (with my mask on in the heat of the garage part of the airport) for a representative to get me started on the pickup process. Turns out there were only 2-3 employees working that afternoon who were doing everything. Once one of the employees shared this information with me, I was not too frustrated.
Minus: There car I reserved wasn’t available because a customer before me took it upon himself to take the car and lie to the gate attendant stating that he was told he could switch cars. It was a busy weekend, so we were stuck for a week in a vehicle that was too small.
Minus: The worker was extremely rude at the pick up and did not honor my purchase through a third party and tried charging me much more. I went through a different rental service. Very disappointed.
Minus: Did not recognize gold status from ‘3rd party vendor’.

Minus: The services at Hertz Memphis Airport. We rented the car for 3 days and pre paid for 3 days. It took forever to get the car. The lady at the reception was not properly trained and seemed not to know how things work.
Moreover they made us pay for an additional day as we returned the car within 3 days at 24 hours. Nobody could explain us why we prepaid for 3 days and are charged for an additional day of a day is 24h.

Minus: Staff was rude and disrespectful... Car was reserved and when I proceeded upstairs to retrieve someone was loading their luggage in it. Charges were added to the change in reservation that were not added downstairs on the original.

Plus: The pick up process at the counter was very slow. I waited at least 20 min. Or more.
Minus: The vehicle was not well cleaned, but ok. I picked up a day earlier than on the reservation, so was just happy they could accommodate me.
Scam artists
Plus: On pickup they tried charging me three different rates until I insisted on the rate I reserved. Then, my car smelled horribly like smoke. So I exchanged it for a different one. Apparently they never logged it out correctly bc they called me the next day and asked me for the info on the keys and asked which car I had.
When I tried to attach my wizard number they told me I could but it would be a lot more expensive. So much for being a preffered member! After bringing my car back I was in a hurry and grabbed my receipt and ran. Later looking at the receipt they gave me somebody else’s receipt. Overall, employees who are out to scam you and who just don’t care at all. I would and will try someplace else in the future.

Minus: I cannot help feel that Avis took advantage of my family when we were in a vulnerable position.
We needed to get to Little Rock as soon as we could to maximize time with my wife's grandfather, who has a terminal illness. In light of a mechanical issue that caused us to miss a connecting flight to Little Rock, it appeared that the best solution was to re-book our travel through Memphis, and rent a car to complete the next hundred or so miles of the journey.
We were pleased to find that Avis allowed us to reserve a Toyota Corolla, or equivalent car, at a favorable rate. I did so, as we boarded our flight to Memphis. But when we arrived, and asked that Avis honor the reservation, I was informed that no cars were available other than a luxury car that would cost another $50+ per day. When I asked, l was told that a reservation is only good if there are cars available. This is of course inconsistent with every definition of reservation I have heard in my 36 years.
I checked one of the other rental counters to see if they had options, and ultimately decided that I needed to quit wasting time and take the luxury option at Avis. We had a limited number of hours to spend with my wife's grandfather, and we had no choice.
Upon returning to the counter, thinking I had misheard earlier, I asked another member of staff why the reservation was not honored, and was told again that the reservation is only good if there are cars available. Fortunately, I was then told that a Nissan Altima or Maxima had become available for not too much more than the Corolla I had reserved. I gladly took the Nissan and was happy not to pay the luxury sticker price. But I cannot help feel that I was forced to be upsold. Moreover, the car we ultimately received was musty with stale cigarette smoke, and had tires that, while perhaps not illegal to drive on, should have been replaced for winter driving.
This has left me with a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Tell your friends, stay away from Avis unless you like making reservations for the joy of it, and not the benefits that reserving ordinarily conveys.
Terrible experience which stranded family with infant and toddler for

Minus: Flights were delayed so I successfully booked the reservation pickup for 1AM. When we arrived at 1:07AM, the desk was deserted. There was no warning at all about closing times when booking was made. Our luggage was lost so we had no car seat for a taxi. The MEM curbside between 1-3AM is a scary, uncomfortable place for a family with small children. We partially blame the booking process with a failure in warning at least.
Minus: When I picked out the car online it said there would be extra fees however it did not say what those fees were and how much they would be so when I had to actually pay for it upon arrival it was much more expensive and I was not prepared for it, if I would have known in advance I could have been prepared

Rental good, car seats not so good
Plus: The car itself was good, service also very good, polite, friendly, etc.
Minus: We rented car seats to make travelling with two kids a little easier. We needed one car seat for an infant, and one for a toddler. We were given two very cheap models (not surprising, but still a little disappointing). The infant bucket seat didn’t have easily adjustable straps, so I couldn’t loosen and tighten them without flipping the seat upside down - which obviously I didn’t do when getting my baby in and out of the car. The toddler car seat was terrible. I was given a booster seat instead of a real car seat with five-point harness. My daughter is a small 3 year old (under 30 lbs, only 3ft tall) so a booster was neither comfortable, nor safe, nor legal. In the future, I will definitely not rent car seats with this company again, which will make me rethink renting with them as the convenience factor is highly affected. Also, I really think car rental staff should be up to date on car seat laws, so that the employees could have seen that this car seat was not the right fit.

My daughter is a small 3 year old (under 30 lbs, only 3ft tall) so a booster was neither comfortable, nor safe, nor legal. In the future, I will definitely not rent car seats with this company again, which will make me rethink renting with them as the convenience factor is highly affected. Also, I really think car rental staff should be up to date on car seat laws, so that the employees could have seen that this car seat was not the right fit.

Minus: Pickup spot was a bit of a walk from the baggage claim area but not a big deal. It might be helpful if that detail was listed somewhere, would help people with disabilities plan for it.

The cars are suppose to be non-smoking cars. I could not get another car. I drove in the smokey car for 7 days. Worst experience. I'll never rent from Thrifty again. The company didn't even refund me a day's rental. Unbelievable!

Do you worker was rude and we had to rent from another company, even though we had already paid for our rental.
Minus: Upon pick up the credit card machine rejected two different cards. No chip had to slide. I called both banks thinking maybe a fraud alert. Nope. Machine issues. Took almost an hour to get it sorted out. Car was nearly new and nice once I got going.

Plus: Car was nice! Which I suppose is the most important part. Clean, odor-free, got a size upgrade, which as a 6’3” man I appreciated. Drop-off was easy and the employee at the Jackson location couldn’t have been nicer.
Minus: It literally took longer for me to pick up my car in Memphis than my incoming flight from Atlanta took. It was well over an hour before keys were placed in my hands due to a slow moving line at the pickup counter (my representative was lovely, but had to constantly stop service to assist the other representative. Lovely gesture, slowed down service), and then once I got upstairs to the pickup counter, the crew in the garage could not have been any less helpful. My car was ready, but I had to wait another 30-45 minutes in the line just to be talked to to simply pick up my keys. I hate being that sort of Karen, but there is a line where the service becomes so terrible I can’t keep it to myself. Especially after having to travel last second for a family emergency, this lack of service and consideration for my time and business will keep me from booking Budget in the future unless it’s the only option available, especially at Memphis.

Minus: 1. No car was available when we arrived, in spite of my efforts earlier to ensure there would be. We were lucky that a car appeared within 20 mins. 2. The air pressure warning was on the entire 8 days. I added air to all tires but the warning persisted. 3. Too much time spent waiting for receipt to be printed upon our return. Avis doesn’t seem to try harder anymore.

They’re reps were available and ready to assist another company’s customers. I find it odd that he even had passwords and such to log into the payless system being he wasn’t a payless employee.
