Great service, friendly bilingual staff Some of the rooms have mould problems and smell really bad.
location- beach front and yet near town centre No work table. No " no disturb sign" or " please make up room" sign. Also hotel did not have my reservation although i had a booking.com confirmation--- I have no idea what went wrong there. Luckily they could find a room for me and that it was not peak season.
Beach. Room. View. The water flowing from pipes in the water near the beach smelled bad.
Right in the center of the most amazing beach on the island. Shopping and dining steps away with fantastic shopping and everything you could possibly be looking for... Staff and beach service were both my favorite things
Located on a beautiful beach with gentle waves and white sand. The regular room I booked lacked a balcony which is essential for an enjoyable stay. I had to upgrade, for a fair amount of money, in order to get one. I would not recommend booking a regular room.Do not book a room on a Friday or Sat. due to loud disco beat pulsating till 4am!
Efficient friendly staff. Rooms fine. Internet access appreciated. Great Beach very close. Noisy beach disco next door. Hotel unaware of our Booking.com reservation.
The location was great. The pool was very clean. The facilities were above average. The room smelled very musty. Painting was going on on our floor which was akward at times.
its right on the beautiful north beach. also conveniently located to the little town on the north part of the island - a few minutes walk to dinner, the port, and other conveniences. but what stood out were the little niceties, such as a free 20 minute massage each, recommended tours that were NOT inflated by the normal hotel prices (i.e. reasonable prices) and generally just very polite staff. the rooms are basic and comfortable and more than adequate for a nice stay. however, they could stand a bit more decoration to spruce up the place - it did feel a bit 'blah'. that being said we spent most of our time outside of that room enjoying the sun, so no big deal. note - no problem with cleanliness, just that the room was quite plain.
Bra hotellfrukost.
The location was perfect with about 2 minutes walk to the beach and ten minutes walk to the shops and resturaunts. We wanted to pay in cash for our stay but because of the rate of pesos to the dollar this worked out to be more expensive. This is obviously an area that is visited mainly by Americans and everything is priced in dollars.
Proximity to the beach and nearness to town. Quiet and relaxing. Hotel staff were not very warm or welcoming, and did nothing to orient us to the hotel or to its services.
the hotel was placed just next to playa norte, lovely location the staff was the most unfriendly we found during our trip in mexico and not flexible at all. they charged the cc in advanse though i was suppose to pay at the check out
Close to the beach! The hotel are not really clean and the staff kind of rude. They exchange your beach towels only once for to days(!!) And they promise wi-fi but they only give you the code for the nearby restaurant, there is no wi-fi in the room. I sew some really nice hotels for the same price on the island.
Great location, nice place, friendly staff, clean rooms. Bottled water readily available. Safe and secure grounds. The continental breakfast started at 7:30. We would have liked to have coffeee available earlier.
We liked the patio off the room (in the main building). The grounds were nice and the continental breakfast was adequate. The first room we were given was in the building across the street (el castillo). One whole wall was a sliding door/window and there was no screen on it, so we couldn't enjoy the breezes from the beach without mosquitoes.
The gardens were absolutely beautiful, and the hotel property has a very Mexican feel to it. Just what we were looking for.
The beach is spectacular and the service was good. We were a little cautious after reading other reviews but if you are understanding of the language and cultural barriers you will not have any problems. Overall we had a fantastic stay... A common complaint was the hard beds....but... you do get a down comforter....so we used it as a matress pad and the bed was great!!
The location is great, it's right next to the beach. Staff is rude and unfriendly. When we arrived at the airport there was no transfer for us as we had requested. When I called the hotel they simply told me they forgot to make the arrangements. When we finally got to the hotel they tried to put us in a simpler/cheaper room than we had made reservations for (and had already paid for!). The rooms are nowhere near nice or comfortabel and definitely overpriced. There are plenty of other options on the island to go to.
Loved the location. Make sure you get information about which type of room you will be staying in, some are older, but we were not in the room much anyway. Needs updated furniture.
Loved the resort, the pool, the beach, ocean was amazing and clear. Food was good, people were friendly. Front desk was rude, and front desk manager was horrible too. Understaffed so it took forever to get a drink from the bar. We would order 4 at a time to compensate. Room service was only omelets and burgers and only available after 11pm.
Location and staff My wife and I have been staying here for years when it was the Avolon. First stay as Mia. Place still has the location but the new look is just alright. New construction a bit cheap looking. Too much white
Mia is under renovation. When it is finished I probably won't be able to afford it. My wife and I stayed AI. I do not understand the complaints of food or facilities of others. The only extra we paid was for tips. Once again the location is the best on north beach. My only fear is that something must be done with the turns that inhabit the point.
Location, location, location,
we loved the natural grounds...very pretty and made us feel like we were in the tropics. The staff were amazing and all very helpful when needed. I would like to have a fridge in the room...just to keep cold drinks and stuff.
The staff at Na Balam were very accomodating with any and all questions or problems that we ran into while on the island.
The most perfect location in my opinion on the beach, nice quiet and a great first destination in Mexico The food in the restaurant was below average and also very expensive for what it was. also found that the staff in the restaurant were quite rude
Very nice beach hotel. If the sun is shining this hotel really provides all the services one can wish for. If the weather is not good, a tv in the bedroom would be better.
Loved the cozy and informal atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable and the landscaping around the hotel is beautiful. Loved it!
I loved being right on the beach. The yoga classes were excellent. The feel of a small hotel in paradise was just right for me. It was a bit of a walk from the main restaurants and there is no dinner at Na Balam.
So quaint and quiet. Very relaxing.
Location, nice view on the ocean Unfriendly front desk, pool and pool area very bad maintained (paint is coming off everywhere), unclean; certainly not worth the price you're paying!
I loved the sunrise ocean view! The room was spacious and very comfortable. Very simple & 1uropean feeling. Super friendly staff and great location for everything on Isla.
The gentlemen that worked during our stay were very accomodating and helpful. It would have been nice to have a microwave in the room.
Very good hotel to be a 2 -star. Very clean and new. View of the ocean is nice, even if this is not a good area where to swim. I booked a room without air conditioning and fan, but this types of rooms are very poor and it was too hot, so I had to pay more for a room with air conditioning. The hotel is not so close from the best beaches of the island.
Rooms clean. Over rocky coast with waves. Breezy. Quiet. Great quality for the money. Near to attractions. Wish there were room phones.
The wonderful sea view from our balcony. Hotel Rocamar is way too expensive: it presents itself as a high- standard hotel, but the fact that there is no hair dryer, no hot water in the shower (only lukewarm at most), no phone, no airconditioning in the standard budget room, only plastic chairs and no decoration show us that this hotel is too expensive for the quality it offers.
loved the surf pounding within feet of our room
location. close to downtown, but still far enough away from noise and craziness of some of the businesses that made sleeping great. lack of attention to details. For example there was a huge glass sliding door that had been removed from one of the rooms that was propped up just outside our door during our stay.. Very unsightly . I guess they were not concerned about it falling on someone. Also most of staff very friendly/helpful. One exception is the man who was usually at front desk. Would a smile be that much a problem for him?
We where able to upgrade to a send story room that was properly finished. Original room was in the basement. The fridge was repainted and covered with mold and rust on the outside. The light fixtures were roughed in with bulbs and the pain in the bathroom was peeling. The balcony was at street level and the hammock was missing. Basic room, in the states we would call this a motel not a hotel.
Very close to the main town and beaches, 2 blocks away, great sun rise veiw of the beach in the morning, and great beds.
We booked for 5 nights, but stayed for 1. It was too basic and uncomfortable for us, ie. 2 plastic chairs and funky bathroom. View was great.
veiw shower water pressure
Never had to worry about things like hot water and bathroom facilities not working -
It is a modern hotel that provides comfortable accomodations at a reasonable price. The price includes a continental breakfast that allows you to save even more.
very comfy bed, clean room, great sound-proof sliding glass doors, elevator worked, pleasant staff, good safe deposit box in room # 1 flaw--sketchy key situation (they wanted us to leave our key at the desk when we left for the day, but most times it was just plopped on the desk in the open-air, on street lobby and left there, plus anyone could ask for any room key and get it, zero security on this point. weak breakfast, super overpriced lobby bar (for a pretty lame affair)
The stuf were very nice. The room was very clean and new. The hotel is nearby the fairy... and 10 min from the north beach (the best one)
Our room had floor to ceiling windows with a magnificent view of the sea. The room was very clean and bright! There was some street noise do to the location , but the view made up for it!
The location is very convenient since it is a block away from the ferry terminal. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean. Nice view of the harbor with street-facing rooms. The air conditioning worked well. The mattress was rock hard, and there was quite a bit of noise from the street - with scooters, taxis and golf carts whizzing by. The windows shut well to keep out a lot of noise, but it was still very audible, even above the din of the air conditioner.
The excellent position just few steps from the sea and the view from the bedroom chairs and tables outside should be renewed as they look a bit old and damaged
Fantastic location, not overcrowded due to the architecture. The pool is a very nice place facing the sea and the service is very nice. We had to leave :-)
There is no such thing as a bad view at this hotel! Each room faces the ocean. The view and the sound of the ocean is amazing. There were no restaurant or bar services. However the hotel is walking distance close to an area with numerous bars and restaurants.
The proximity to the sea and the view from the room. A little difficult to find.
Watching sunrises, the sea, sky. Hanging out with family at the pool, really a stunning and beautiful spot! lack of services, bed with uncomfortable foam pad, old inadequate a/c shower temps varied, with low water pressure, minimalistic breakfast, unfriendly staff, old towels, run down appearance, overall not the quality you'd expect for the price- thought it would be more luxurious
Best value for money You can have in Isla Mujeres! Little bit hippie style, but clean, air condition old but funcional, staff fine, helpfull. Location is amazing 20 meters from beach, very nice garden where You can spend evenings and be hidden from hot sun. Wi-fi is operating only in one place depending on wind.
This place was perfect. A step away from the beach. Good food at their resturant. AC and refridgerator. Balconies overlooking the pool. And only a couple blocks away from Hildalgo street.
The location is absolutely perfect! It is right on the beach and also in the middle of the most active part of the island. Plenty of great restaurants and shops within walking distance. Every room has a balcony with at least a partial ocean view as well, which was very nice. The A/C was adequate and the rooms are well shaded, so they don't get too hot even without the A/C on. The bed was not overly comfortable. It would have been okay, but I got extremely sunburned and it made sleeping very difficult. The staff was okay, but they won't go out of their way to do anything for you. You'll have to be persistent if you really have a problem with something. The worst part of our stay was the shower. There was no cold water! Scalding hot was the only option. For me, because of the sunburn, this was especially difficult to deal with, but it was even way too hot for my fiance to handle as well. We had to stand away from the water and splash off as best we could. I told the front desk about it, but it did not get fixed (not sure if they checked it out). I was not persistent because I have a high tolerance for discomfort. Bottom line, if you want to stay in an awesome location for a cheap rate and you're willing to deal with a few "character flaws," then this is a great place for you. If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere.
The new part of the hotel was beautiful. Our balcony faced the pool and the beach. The room was nice and clean. The hotel was in a great location and in walking distance from the beach and many great restaurants. The hotel tried to give us a room in the old building without the refrigerator when the reservation was for the new part with a refrigerator. When we told the front desk they put us in the wrong room, the man at the front desk charged us an additional $100 US cash to upgrade to the room we actually reserved. He put that money in his bag. The website also said water bottles were in the room but it was a water cooler in the lobby. For a family 3, we were only given 2 towels. When we asked the front desk for more, they just said they didn't have any. Our door did not have the slide chain since someone had forced the door open and the door jamb have never been repaired. The door was not secure and we were able to push the door open without a key. We had to put cardboard in the door strike to get it to latch and lock, but we still took our valuables with us every day. The customer service was terrible and not what was expected.
Pool and location Quality of the rooms
We liked the location of the hotel and the pool area. The hotel staff besides reception was very kind and friendly. The man at the front desk was very rude and unhelpful. We asked for towels three times because the showe was overflowing onto the bathroom floor and for some reason it was a big deal. Some of the towels we received were stained.
Location was great, right on Hidalgo, the 'walking street'. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Only a block and a half to the beach. It is above an aptly named 'Rock Bar' restaurant so there was loud music until about 1:00 a.m. Fortunately our room was facing the inner courtyard so the noise wasn't too bad. I think rooms above the bar facing the street get the worst of the noise.
Nice pool right outside your room and good seating outside
Clean, quite. Advertised as less than 100 meter from the beach. I could see the sea from my patio but could not get to it. No restaurant. Not walking distance to a restaurant or shopping. Booked 4 nights, stayed one. Motel in a seedy location no after dark explore
That they aloowed us to go to Captain Dolce's We had no hot water, the beach was FAR, the breakfast was Tang instead of OJ and instant coffee for beverages. Since the hotel was full you would have thought she would have cut up fruit before hand and used the coffee maker to make real coffee.
The view was outstanding and the room was quaint (rustic cottage). The restaurant food was graT with large portions The receptionist on the second day (female) was not very friendly or nice. She tried to charge us low conversion rate for the resturaunt food
The hotel has no immediate neighbors, very private. Super friendly staff, they go out of their way to accomodate you. They are very clean, the rooms are well appointed but need better beds and watering the lawn
the bed sheet had red dirty dots on it as well as the towel...if those can be cleaned up that would be much better
Room size, location, view Was old, worn and didnt have many amenities
Great location, friendly staff!
Location right on the beach. Water beautiful. Beach lovely and service with chairs and umbrellas wonderful. Pool area so nice and very peaceful. Grounds immaculate. Restaurant right there, we had a beautiful dinner on the beach at sunset. The, I believe manager, who was less than nice in the office, she was less friendly then the rest of the staff, kind of rude, I do not remember her name. All other staff was wonderful.
Location, private beach, grounds, pool, staff, restaurant Bed, room needs a safe
Room was nice, staff was great. The beach was very relaxing and the restaurant was very good. Although a small island, the hotel was quite a distance from downtown. A little high in price, we saw other hotels for much cheaper.
location, updated rooms would of been nice to have at least one tv channel in english
The location was good, close to everything and the hotel was clean with nice rooms When I made the reservation the room was to be $---- with taxes etc. However when we checked in the charge was about $--- a night for our 4 night stay. When I questioned it I was told that it was tax and fees. I was not happy and won't stay again
