We would do it again. Absolutely stunning. They could buy a few more towels and washcloths. :)
Location and staff My wife and I have been staying here for years when it was the Avolon. First stay as Mia. Place still has the location but the new look is just alright. New construction a bit cheap looking. Too much white
Location, location, location,
We loved the island and the people. When we arrived they couldn't find our reservation thru kayak. They had to make some calls while we waited in the lobby after a long day of travel. I paid for the best room my sister in law paid for the cheapest room. Our rooms were exactly the same. (So if booking I would go cheap) our rooms were nice and clean. The hotel is on a point which is incredible. We heard the Mia had just sold to new people. The grounds were run down (grass was dead hanging beds the covers were tearing off etc) but we saw things being worked on and fixed up while we were there. They have stairs into the water and the bottom stair is slick as snot. First day my brother in law slipped and hit his head and cut his elbow. They had to call a doctor to come and see him up and clean it out. Slick stairs No reservation when I arrived Charged for more expensive room Grounds in disrepair
Mia is under renovation. When it is finished I probably won't be able to afford it. My wife and I stayed AI. I do not understand the complaints of food or facilities of others. The only extra we paid was for tips. Once again the location is the best on north beach. My only fear is that something must be done with the turns that inhabit the point.
Loved the resort, the pool, the beach, ocean was amazing and clear. Food was good, people were friendly. Front desk was rude, and front desk manager was horrible too. Understaffed so it took forever to get a drink from the bar. We would order 4 at a time to compensate. Room service was only omelets and burgers and only available after 11pm.
Loved the Swim out pool outside our suite The up sell!! Forced to buy a bottle of wine to get best seats in restaurants
Great place if you want to sit at the pool and drink Golf is $75/person per day not complimentary. Construction is going on next door. Food at speciality restaurants is not great. Wine selection is same 2 reds at each restaurant which are mediocre.
Bra hotellfrukost.
Lovely staff, nice rooms, a great place to stay
The place is not fancy or amazing but it's decent and overall good. The food is probably the best part, and the resort is isolated (no other resort or civilization around) so the place doesn't get overpack which makes the overall experience better. (This is not the place you would want to party or go in early twenties) The best best part was the seafood, every restaurant's best items were seafood (not shrimp), and the best restaurant was hiroshi (sushi restaurant). In this hotel every restaurant is included in all inclusive price, and you do not need to make a reservation to eat at a restaurant. The view is not the best around the resort (a bunch of trees with construction site), but the downtown isn't very far (20 minutes away by cab). The outside resort is overall safe but be aware of cabbies and make sure you negotiate the cab fare before you get in the cab. They do try to rip you off if you are a tourist. Ask the hotel what the fare should be on the way back to the hotel as price from and to hotel is significantly different (cab fare back to hotel is about half the price and this one way back to hotel is not a set price so it can be negotiated whereas the cab fare from hotel to destinations have set fare and prices tend to be much higher). There are tiny little ants in all the rooms. I had a group of friends who had different rooms on different floors, and we all had ants. The beach is decent but it's very rocky (little rocks that pokes your feet as you are trying To get in the water). Water is warm and decent (it's not clear or murky). They do have a security personnel at the beach to watch over your personal items so you can go in the water and leave your items behind. Mexican restaurant's most items are terrible tasting but tuna dish and Mexican rice dish were very good and guacamole was fresh but bland. Steak restaurant was okay. Half of us did get mild to moderate stomach upsetness after staying there 2 -3 days. At this hotel, wifi is $10 daily and the connection isn't great, but at the Starbucks, there is a free wifi. The resort does offer time share, and a little section of it is reserved for time share members only.
It is a modern hotel that provides comfortable accomodations at a reasonable price. The price includes a continental breakfast that allows you to save even more.
very comfy bed, clean room, great sound-proof sliding glass doors, elevator worked, pleasant staff, good safe deposit box in room # 1 flaw--sketchy key situation (they wanted us to leave our key at the desk when we left for the day, but most times it was just plopped on the desk in the open-air, on street lobby and left there, plus anyone could ask for any room key and get it, zero security on this point. weak breakfast, super overpriced lobby bar (for a pretty lame affair)
The location is very convenient since it is a block away from the ferry terminal. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean. Nice view of the harbor with street-facing rooms. The air conditioning worked well. The mattress was rock hard, and there was quite a bit of noise from the street - with scooters, taxis and golf carts whizzing by. The windows shut well to keep out a lot of noise, but it was still very audible, even above the din of the air conditioner.
The stuf were very nice. The room was very clean and new. The hotel is nearby the fairy... and 10 min from the north beach (the best one)
Our room had floor to ceiling windows with a magnificent view of the sea. The room was very clean and bright! There was some street noise do to the location , but the view made up for it!
Never had to worry about things like hot water and bathroom facilities not working -
Located on a beautiful beach with gentle waves and white sand. The regular room I booked lacked a balcony which is essential for an enjoyable stay. I had to upgrade, for a fair amount of money, in order to get one. I would not recommend booking a regular room.Do not book a room on a Friday or Sat. due to loud disco beat pulsating till 4am!
Great service, friendly bilingual staff Some of the rooms have mould problems and smell really bad.
Right in the center of the most amazing beach on the island. Shopping and dining steps away with fantastic shopping and everything you could possibly be looking for... Staff and beach service were both my favorite things
Efficient friendly staff. Rooms fine. Internet access appreciated. Great Beach very close. Noisy beach disco next door. Hotel unaware of our Booking.com reservation.
location- beach front and yet near town centre No work table. No " no disturb sign" or " please make up room" sign. Also hotel did not have my reservation although i had a booking.com confirmation--- I have no idea what went wrong there. Luckily they could find a room for me and that it was not peak season.
The location was great. The pool was very clean. The facilities were above average. The room smelled very musty. Painting was going on on our floor which was akward at times.
its right on the beautiful north beach. also conveniently located to the little town on the north part of the island - a few minutes walk to dinner, the port, and other conveniences. but what stood out were the little niceties, such as a free 20 minute massage each, recommended tours that were NOT inflated by the normal hotel prices (i.e. reasonable prices) and generally just very polite staff. the rooms are basic and comfortable and more than adequate for a nice stay. however, they could stand a bit more decoration to spruce up the place - it did feel a bit 'blah'. that being said we spent most of our time outside of that room enjoying the sun, so no big deal. note - no problem with cleanliness, just that the room was quite plain.
Beach. Room. View. The water flowing from pipes in the water near the beach smelled bad.
Location, views, service, beautiful water, and inclusive breakfast Outsiders welcome on beach and kids a little loud at times
The most perfect location in my opinion on the beach, nice quiet and a great first destination in Mexico The food in the restaurant was below average and also very expensive for what it was. also found that the staff in the restaurant were quite rude
So quaint and quiet. Very relaxing.
Loved the cozy and informal atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable and the landscaping around the hotel is beautiful. Loved it!
I loved being right on the beach. The yoga classes were excellent. The feel of a small hotel in paradise was just right for me. It was a bit of a walk from the main restaurants and there is no dinner at Na Balam.
The staff at Na Balam were very accomodating with any and all questions or problems that we ran into while on the island.
we loved the natural grounds...very pretty and made us feel like we were in the tropics. The staff were amazing and all very helpful when needed. I would like to have a fridge in the room...just to keep cold drinks and stuff.
Very nice beach hotel. If the sun is shining this hotel really provides all the services one can wish for. If the weather is not good, a tv in the bedroom would be better.
Loved the location. Make sure you get information about which type of room you will be staying in, some are older, but we were not in the room much anyway. Needs updated furniture.
The beach is spectacular and the service was good. We were a little cautious after reading other reviews but if you are understanding of the language and cultural barriers you will not have any problems. Overall we had a fantastic stay... A common complaint was the hard beds....but... you do get a down comforter....so we used it as a matress pad and the bed was great!!
The location is great, it's right next to the beach. Staff is rude and unfriendly. When we arrived at the airport there was no transfer for us as we had requested. When I called the hotel they simply told me they forgot to make the arrangements. When we finally got to the hotel they tried to put us in a simpler/cheaper room than we had made reservations for (and had already paid for!). The rooms are nowhere near nice or comfortabel and definitely overpriced. There are plenty of other options on the island to go to.
the hotel was placed just next to playa norte, lovely location the staff was the most unfriendly we found during our trip in mexico and not flexible at all. they charged the cc in advanse though i was suppose to pay at the check out
Proximity to the beach and nearness to town. Quiet and relaxing. Hotel staff were not very warm or welcoming, and did nothing to orient us to the hotel or to its services.
Close to the beach! The hotel are not really clean and the staff kind of rude. They exchange your beach towels only once for to days(!!) And they promise wi-fi but they only give you the code for the nearby restaurant, there is no wi-fi in the room. I sew some really nice hotels for the same price on the island.
The location was perfect with about 2 minutes walk to the beach and ten minutes walk to the shops and resturaunts. We wanted to pay in cash for our stay but because of the rate of pesos to the dollar this worked out to be more expensive. This is obviously an area that is visited mainly by Americans and everything is priced in dollars.
The gardens were absolutely beautiful, and the hotel property has a very Mexican feel to it. Just what we were looking for.
We liked the patio off the room (in the main building). The grounds were nice and the continental breakfast was adequate. The first room we were given was in the building across the street (el castillo). One whole wall was a sliding door/window and there was no screen on it, so we couldn't enjoy the breezes from the beach without mosquitoes.
Great location, nice place, friendly staff, clean rooms. Bottled water readily available. Safe and secure grounds. The continental breakfast started at 7:30. We would have liked to have coffeee available earlier.
The proximity to the sea and the view from the room. A little difficult to find.
Watching sunrises, the sea, sky. Hanging out with family at the pool, really a stunning and beautiful spot! lack of services, bed with uncomfortable foam pad, old inadequate a/c shower temps varied, with low water pressure, minimalistic breakfast, unfriendly staff, old towels, run down appearance, overall not the quality you'd expect for the price- thought it would be more luxurious
There is no such thing as a bad view at this hotel! Each room faces the ocean. The view and the sound of the ocean is amazing. There were no restaurant or bar services. However the hotel is walking distance close to an area with numerous bars and restaurants.
The excellent position just few steps from the sea and the view from the bedroom chairs and tables outside should be renewed as they look a bit old and damaged
Fantastic location, not overcrowded due to the architecture. The pool is a very nice place facing the sea and the service is very nice. We had to leave :-)
We liked the location of the hotel and the pool area. The hotel staff besides reception was very kind and friendly. The man at the front desk was very rude and unhelpful. We asked for towels three times because the showe was overflowing onto the bathroom floor and for some reason it was a big deal. Some of the towels we received were stained.
The new part of the hotel was beautiful. Our balcony faced the pool and the beach. The room was nice and clean. The hotel was in a great location and in walking distance from the beach and many great restaurants. The hotel tried to give us a room in the old building without the refrigerator when the reservation was for the new part with a refrigerator. When we told the front desk they put us in the wrong room, the man at the front desk charged us an additional $100 US cash to upgrade to the room we actually reserved. He put that money in his bag. The website also said water bottles were in the room but it was a water cooler in the lobby. For a family 3, we were only given 2 towels. When we asked the front desk for more, they just said they didn't have any. Our door did not have the slide chain since someone had forced the door open and the door jamb have never been repaired. The door was not secure and we were able to push the door open without a key. We had to put cardboard in the door strike to get it to latch and lock, but we still took our valuables with us every day. The customer service was terrible and not what was expected.
This place was perfect. A step away from the beach. Good food at their resturant. AC and refridgerator. Balconies overlooking the pool. And only a couple blocks away from Hildalgo street.
Pool and location Quality of the rooms
The location is absolutely perfect! It is right on the beach and also in the middle of the most active part of the island. Plenty of great restaurants and shops within walking distance. Every room has a balcony with at least a partial ocean view as well, which was very nice. The A/C was adequate and the rooms are well shaded, so they don't get too hot even without the A/C on. The bed was not overly comfortable. It would have been okay, but I got extremely sunburned and it made sleeping very difficult. The staff was okay, but they won't go out of their way to do anything for you. You'll have to be persistent if you really have a problem with something. The worst part of our stay was the shower. There was no cold water! Scalding hot was the only option. For me, because of the sunburn, this was especially difficult to deal with, but it was even way too hot for my fiance to handle as well. We had to stand away from the water and splash off as best we could. I told the front desk about it, but it did not get fixed (not sure if they checked it out). I was not persistent because I have a high tolerance for discomfort. Bottom line, if you want to stay in an awesome location for a cheap rate and you're willing to deal with a few "character flaws," then this is a great place for you. If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere.
The location was good, close to everything and the hotel was clean with nice rooms When I made the reservation the room was to be $---- with taxes etc. However when we checked in the charge was about $--- a night for our 4 night stay. When I questioned it I was told that it was tax and fees. I was not happy and won't stay again
location, updated rooms would of been nice to have at least one tv channel in english
