Staff were good and very helpful. Location was good as between the city centre and the other areas of Durban. Nice veiws of the river and beach and so peaceful as not overlooked
The only hiccup was the lost room service food order for my 4 year old daughter, which took more than an hour to rectify.
Location to Durban central but not in the centre. Quiet and comfortable The power went off for 12 hours and they did not have a standby generator. It was very hot and corridors were pitch black with no lighting.
The views. The lift on the 2nd floor did not arrive when pushing the "down" button. After 5 minutes in the heat of the foyer, we decided to push the "up" button and it arrived in seconds. This happened every time so there is a problem. Also, the area by the lifts is extremely hot - you need a fan or aircon here. I would not swim in the pool as it looks so dirty.
Rooms are a nice size, and the microwave was a bonus.Breakfasts were great! Good value and decent selection The bathroom needs an update, toilet seat was marked and the shower seals had black marks on them. The mattress springs were a bit flat.
nothing special, just went for the world cup hard to find plugs in the room
The Hops bar was friendly and reasonably priced. The pool area was in the shade all day. Also the water went off for almost 24 hours.
Quiet and the staff were very helpful By phone the cost of the room was R1080.00 However, I booked on line and was charged R1820.00 Why is that??
Everything was well during my stay at your hotel. Your breakfast:- you must add varieties, you saved us with the same breakfast as the first day we came there. Your sausages were not tasteful at all in such a way that we couldn't eat them.
Breakfast No room or bar service
The breafast. Poor housekeeping, not enough security since the parking is a bit far from the hotel entrance.
The staff were very helpful and courteous and the room was clean and comfortable. The only point of concern was having to park in the parkade down the one way street. The street beyond the hotel was dirty and one did not feel safe when returning to the hotel late at night. There was also the smell of urine outside one of the night clubs.
Safe, relatively easy access to the places in town that I needed to get to. Reasonably clean. Extremely expensive for what it was. Due to the Lions being in town but the room photos online belie how budget this hotel is. If it hadn't been the only one available I doubt I would have stayed here in the first place.
Efficient servicing and cleaning of room. Very good breakfast. The room was excellent for comfort. There is only one bar which is also a public bar onto the main street. There should be a more private hotel bar where people cannot come in off the street.
It was well placed for Centrl Durban
n/a Parking garage excess should be available at for 24 hours. Got Back to the hotel at 2 in the morning left car parked outside the Hotel and picked up a traffic fine. Was not aware parking facilities were available ata certain time only
Nice clean rooms, with excellent service for both breakfast & dinner. The bar often ran out of beer
Not the best hotel I've ever been in . This experience was more like a roadside motel. Had to ask for things, Bathroom very crammy. Tv didnt work on few stations. Had to ask for condiments e.g. miilk, sugar for tea & coffe in room. We were 3 people, only got 2 milk each time-just enough for 1 person/cup. Had to ask for toilet paper etc...
Helpful and freindly Wind noise from badly fitting windows. Could not get breakfast as too full.
The Royal Grill is magnificent. The staff are extremely friendly. The bar is quaint.
friendliness of the staff no
They have a gym with a nice view at the top floor. The back and neck massage was the best I've ever got. The hotel is gallant but old, in a busy street. On their website they advertise a glorious hotel with 5 restaurants and more, just one was open, buffet style, good food but our wine glasses came wet and dirty.
Although its in the city, you don't get to hear to city noise and the views from the hotel are very nice the furtniture in the room is going.
Well-spoted Internet was terrible in the 9th floor where I stayed. I found a cockroach under my bedroom.
Breakfast was very good, the location in the center of the city is good, you can walk to the beach (± 1 km). the staff at the reception was not interrested in the customer
Proximity to the marina. The suite was quite acceptable. Breakfast good. No room service after 10am - according to reception. The room phones only worked intermittently. Reception was sloppy & unhelpful in organising transport. Reception didnt even know how long I had booked the room and 3 times blocked the door key!
From arrival to departure, we were made to feel that we were guests and not just people to fill rooms. We would stay there again when next we visit Durban.
Service & Friendliness of Staff plus the location was superb
The location "on the beach" is superb. Breakfast on the verandah overlooking the waves - what a great way to start the day !!! The room was extremely comfortable and the balcony an additional plus. On the negative side the cost of meals was very high (the curry buffet at R190 p.p. did not give as good a value for money as other nearby eateries) See above.
the position and facilities were fantastic as well as the breakfasts service a little slow at times
Beautifully redecorated, the public areas are lovely and accomodating. A lot of the old bits have been retained and it has the lovely old world feel. Very pleasant. Not really anything not to like
The service was great and the people was friendly. Relaxing atmosphere.
The personal attention and friendlyness of Pam and Dave. They really carred for their guests. (Regrettable I did not read any guest reviews)
Very warm enviroment and good hospitality from the owners
owner was very friendly ocean view very limited you see more trees and people back yard not like as advertised beautiful indian ocean view. i dont rate this g/house as 4 star
Service.I was paid special attention to.the place is beautiful and clean NO
I travel globally on busines usually staying in hotels however on this occasion I decided to try a B&B, I cannot recommend the Africa Regent highly enough, a warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble, a superb B&B close to the city centre in a safe area. Transport to and from the airport was arranged by the owners and ensured my stay was free from hassle. They even offered to wash my clothes when my travel plans changed and I needed to extend my stay. I will certainly be using this establishment in the future. Dave Spence
perfect place for being in Durban, beautiful guest house and more than this 7 stars for hospitality. all is designed to make you feel at home and owners are lovely, friendly and all the time useful
Good price, value for money,'free' extras like wi-fi etc
You really feel like you are in Africa staying here, they have decorated the place superbly with lots of cultural artefacts. The owners are very warm and welcoming with excellent knowledge of the area and great recommendations of what to see and do. Great value for money! Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
We like very much staying there.
Dave & Pam were wonderful hosts and the service was frist class, we will be staying there again No complaints, all good
Extra charges where not expalined before commitment.
I didn't like the area which was far to dangerous to walk in after dusk.
It was close to the Garden Court The room I booked and paid for was not the room i got ( no sea view, no double bed), when this was pointed out i was offered the room at a reduced rate but stll more than the quoted rate for a non sea view room. I didn't stay.. I left and went to Garden Court where for a cheaper price my room was double the size with a double bed and a sea view.
the location was perfect for the needs that we had - the facilities could have been better though. Not really - but the facilities could be better
Location was good and staff were hepful. rather expensive especially the tours that were offered. Double bed was provided as two single beds put togather rather than a "double"bed.
Service desk personnel very helpfull.
Everything was in order from the collection of us at the Airport, Breakfast was also good. Room service was Excellant. .
The staff were great, food was good, I enjoyed my stay. They should not accommodate kids in the double rooms as it is to small for a family
If you have to be in the city centre of Durban, then this hotel is an ideal choice. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms (with a sea-view) are spacious and elegant. There is a splenid terrace overlooking the beach and Marine Parade. The only drawback is the air of seedy dereliction that characterises the downtown CBD, and begins one or two blocks back from the coast. No
staff were polite and helpful
It is clean smart and the stay was very nice i will book again, thanks.
The staff was very helpful and extremely courteous. Every request was answered very quickly and all expectations were either met or exceeded. Nothing comes to mind.
Staff were always friendly and helpful
The hotel is conveniently located. The quality of hotel in general and service is very good.
It was walking distance to the beach and shops, transportation within in easy reach and entertainment venues - the food was excellent and the hotel is as neat as a pin Everything was perfect
It was a pleasant stay, with neat clean facilities.I would stay there again none
The shower leaks badly onto bathroom floor, lock on door to balcony does not work, bar fridge in room was locked
The breakfast was outstanding. They could have upgraded the facility long time ago. Rooms are quite antique and not modern.
the staff at protea hotel were excellent they made my stay to be wow I was not notified about the renovations of the hotel so I could not go to swimming pool because of renovations
As I said above we enjoyed our stay at the Flinthouse Hotel and found the staff friendly and very helpfull Reginald Pauwels to many mosquitos...and no product to get rid of them
Warm welcome from the staff and their service delivery
Close to Durban Central and to the beaches - but in a very calm district. Fan and A/C in room, nice garden and pool and a very friendly Hotel staff. I saw complaints on this website ... I had a warm welcome, a clean room, fresh towels, A/C, a nice breakfast - a super stay; I only can recommend this Guest House!
Friendly Staff Parking Arrangements, Breakfast Times.
Friendly, happy, efficient staff - eager to be of assistance. Cleanliness was superb, wide selection of breakfast choices, individually prepared for each guest ( Not pre-cooked and kept in a warming oven )
My stay was pleasant, the parking is a bit cramped but acceptable.
Service from staff & overall serene environment - good view of the new Moses Mabhida stadium. Parking constraints and having to wake up to move my vehicle in order let other guests through.
It was quite and nice, whixh is what I prefer. The self service and catering were good I was nearly given a romm that I did not book because of overbooking. Thats terrible and need attention
Not enough parking, Ugly finishing, Linen is Tired, Bathroom old and worn out. Stains on curtains. Bad smell throughout the guesthouse.
It was very conveniently situated for what I needed to do while I stayed in Durban. I loved having a court yard outside my room and safe parking was a big bonus.
Security and location
safe area , aircon rooms , friendly owners the bed squeed , otherwise the stay was perfect Ill return
easy accesible .. close to all We booked a honeymoon suite and there was nothing special done .. eg. choccies on the pillows ect.
The cleanliness and the quietness found there. Yes, breakfast ended at 9am, requiring people on holidays to wake up rather early.
The large, comfortable room and the friendly welcome Breakfast could have been more relaxing! They seemed really busy.
The hosts were exceptionally friendly and there is a family feeling to the residence. Everything seemed to have a personal touch to it and they really went out of there way to make the experience as though we were staying in a home away from home. N/A
It is located centrally. The owners take great pride in their freindliness and service. It was nmy second time there and will be the place I stay for all my Durban business trips.
Clean crisp sheets and quiet setting. Safe to walk down the road to shops and restaurants. Taxi from airport was organised through Roseland House and was waiting for me when I arrived.
The staff is fair and easy going! Services and Breakfest are very poor!
Location, the staff Breakfast
I didn't enjoy anything about the hotel The fact that you can't get a refund, even if booking.com said you'll be charged your first night if you cancel. The carpet and shower smell, couldnt sleep or even eat breakfas in the morning. if you are looking to relax & enjoy your holiday, do it some where else. The guest reviews on the website are very misleading.
The location is the best feature for the hotel. It it close to everything that we needed. Next to the ICC, the beach, Ushaka Marine World. And the room has a balcony (AWESOME)! The Riviera Hotel's food is bland and the rooms required more air conditioning.
Staff are professional but too much sound noise. Loud sound of unusually noise
It was local No complaints
Location - too much traffic noise.
The hotel is well situated, near the sea. The price was good. Rooms are very "tired" and basic.
Reception staff very helpfull Good location close to marina for best restaurants Very tired and dated Noise from road would have been unbareable without alcohol
I had a fabulous one night stay in idyllic surroundings. The Koi carp pond in the centre of the beautiful terraced garden was an added bonus. The owners could not have made me feel more welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. They even let me borrow their 'phone - for a very important 45 minute incoming call. Spotless en suite accommodation with excellent breakfast. I will happily stay here again and recommend this place to ALL my friends.
The hotel is in a safe location. It's near the MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM. Hosts are friendly and helpful. Serivce was good. It makes you feels like home....
The service. The location. The staff and owners were very helpful.
Very comfortable and friendly place. Staff was very helpful in all matters and went out of it's way to offer help when needed. I recommend for anyone looking for a clean, affordable and nice place.
I felt a sense of security and the atmosphere was relxing
Good food Good Host/hostess Clean room None
It was clean cheap and right by the beach. Stunning views great location.
View to ocean is very good, the room clean and the breakfest is enough. Absolutely no internet in this hotel and no places where you can get it in the evening. At the ground floor there is a bar with shalaves.
walking distance from the beach and can see the sea from your hotel window. could do shopping on the side walk from the street vendors. go for rides in the rijah. the hotel staff was not assisting. the place needs a facelift. the food was shabby. the lift was like a death trap waiting to happen.
The staff was very friendly, rooms small but clean and comfortable. The stay was very pleasant, and I would definitely stay there again. Just think perhaps they should have a phone service to each room. I was there alone with my 13 year old daughter and there was a problem with our room being booked to someone else and security entered the room at 23h30 which was a little nerve racking. Staff was very apologetic but with a phone service it would have been handled better:)
Very good price and very kind staff.
It was very near the beach and the staff were friendly and helpfulto us. The room was not comfortable, no aircon, windows poorly fitting and rattled in the wind. pigeons nesting in the attic above us, making a lot of noise. All in all a "seedy" hotel in a great location.
I did not like anything about the hotel from the reception to my room. I checked out the very next morning as soon as I could.
The hotel stuff are very professional and down to earth i liked everything about the hotel, and would love to recommend it to other people for future and world cup purpose
Economical - well located
My room is 507, that are plenty of pigeons flying into my room! And it is over-priced!
The hotel is value for money and that is the only reason I chose it. The hotel is old, the mats are smelly, the door to my room looks like it has seen better days. The lock mechanisms are old and outdated.
Closer to the beach and nice breakfast and friendly Chefs Room was only clean and prepared after 15:00 on sunday.ALways room for improvement.
Ocean view from the room. Cleaning service at the hotel and breakfast are definitely require drastic improvement. Th
