The property is beautiful and well maintained. It's very convenient to the subway. The staff is super helpful. What's not to like? There are few businesses around the hotel (restaurants, bars, etc...). This means that going out for a bite to eat means eating at the hotel (expensive), taking a taxi, or taking the subway.
This hotel is located in the beautiful hills above Kyoto within walking distance of the train station. It is a lovely building, however the upkeep is showing strain. The hallway carpets were stained, the room was slightly worn looking, though clean. The staff were helpful but seemed somewhat over-worked. There was no shuttle service into town; things that I would have expected from a luxury hotel. Aside from this, the hotel stay was quite enjoyable as it is a beautiful hotel. It is just not being kept up to the standard one would expect.
The Grand Prince Hotel in Kyoto, Japan was one of the best experiences I have ever had in staying at a hotel. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was simply amazing. The staff promoted saving our environment with free breakfast if you reused your towels- what a concept! The gift store was better than many shops downtown, and the walking paths made exercising a joy. The subway was minutes away, and the staff made finding the sites easy. I have no complaints, which is rare.
Room size No
Pleasant, helpful staff and great location. Easy to access via public transport and short walks to many sightseeing spots. The toilet did smell a little but seemed clean enough - perhaps old drains?
Location No elevators
I liked nothing in this hotel except the location of the hotel (in the touristic area) The japanese style room is really small without any decoration and the bathroom is also reallly too small. Compared to the price of the room, it is really too expensive. The worst rapport quality/price I have never had.
Super friendly staff, hot Japanese bath, free bicycle
The service was warm and friendly - the manager? lady was very welcoming and set us at ease re language / english - she also made a point of having friendly conversation - offered suggestions re places to visit Also location was superb for visiting temples and other sites. Restaurant available for breakfast - internet/laptop available as did not have laptop room very small for 2 people - entrance a bit cramped -
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is located within walking distance to temples, museums, shopping, subway, and the Gion district in Kyoto. Great value!
Ohara no Sato is set in a gorgeous location close to Kyoto but far enough away to feel like you`re totally surrounded by country and nature. Close to the forest and mountain hiking, there is a beautiful stream the flows just in front of the property that is very melodic. The service was pleasant, although not fully accommodating of meal requests, and the gardens in the back of the building were lovely, although we did not have access to them except for viewing due to our room placement. The onsen was clean and lovely. The full kotatsu set-up in our room was great (minus backed-chairs)! The food was delicious but fairly minimal. We booked a room at peak season during the height of cherry blossoms, so our room was very expensive as to be expected, but the value for 300 USD was a little disappointing. I would not pay this again for the quality of the amenities and decor, which were average for even a budget hotel. The hard fiber-padded pillows could use improvement, the room lighting was a single harsh double-ringed bulb ceiling light, there was no sink on our floor (4 rooms), and our room was very minimal with no view as thick foliage 3 feet from the window blocked everything.
