Plus: The hotel was really unique I really liked the design the staff was very nice and accomadating

Plus: Best facilities, awesome common spaces, kitchen, strong wifi. Very clean and well-appointed rooms. Staff is very kind and helpful and not arrogant even if the bar area attracts trendy clientele
Minus: Street noise required earplugs (but the location couldn't be better so it's understandable)
Plus: Staff was very helpful and pleasant with tours, directions, getting back to airport, and any other questions people had. Breakfast was sufficient for a hostel and this was good because eating out could get pricey in Reykavik.
Plus: Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The price was right!
Breakfast was very satisfying.
The staff were very pleasant.
Minus: With 10 beds and a check out time of 10:00 AM I had a problem
getting into the toilet. I suggest that there be an alternative access to use another toilet if someone is showering and dressing in a locked bathroom!
A suggestion: Please inform new hostlers how to turn the light switch off. I came in from the airport and went into room at 2:00 AM. Put the
light on but could not shut it. At some point a 'sleeper' go up and showed me to press it twice!

Minus: The hotel staff were rude and not helpful. One night there was so much noise from people talking and partying until 3:00 am. Could not sleep. The buses no linger pick you up at the hotel. It the walk to the bus stop is less than five minutes. It was still inconvenient with all our luggage. We did not know that when booking.
Plus: Excellent location within walking distance to busy city center
Great value for the money
Prompt service from staff & housekeeping
Nice little restaurant in the lobby
Minus: For some reason the TV was messed up most of the time (would get frozen on certain channels and would have to get up and turn it off). However, was not in the room much, so this was not a big issue.
Plus: The hotel is centrally located in Reykjavik and next door to some excellent restaurants. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.
Plus: Location was good.
Minus: Parking was listed but it was public parking. We had to drive around and parked a few blocks away.
Plus: Location! You can not beat the location of the Centrum. Also the front desk staff is awesome. They can book all of your excursions for you and if you would like dinner reservations, they can suggest where and then make the reservations for you. The hotel bar happy hour was excellent if you like beer and craft cocktails.
Minus: The room size was a little small and there was no place for a second piece of large luggage. Also, even with the radiator in the off position, the room was extremely hot. We were forced to sleep with the windows open. The amount of noise coming from the street from cars and people at all hours of the night caused us not to get a good nights sleep in the 8 days that we were there. I wish I would have brought ear plugs.
Plus: Outstanding staff. Very clean. Very central. Convenient bar and restaurant.
Minus: Slow wifi.
Plus: Close to old parts of town. In fact, hotel is built over museum for first settlement.
Plus: It was clean, desk staff were pleasant
Minus: The hotel had messed up the reservations. My reservation through Kayak was fine. However, a hotel block that was to be released 45 days before my arrival was still on the books (I was joining a hiking group) and they tried to get me to pay for that supposed reservation. In talking with the agency that had arranged the room block for this particular hiking group, this is not the first time that this hotel has done this. In addition, a friend of mine who had confirmed her reservation at Hotel Centrum before leaving the US, received an e-mail that they were overbooked and she had to go to another hotel---even though Hotel Centrum had double bookings and indeed did have rooms.
Plus: Location in town.
Minus: Ridiculous price for room that had no amenities. Paid five star price for two star motel. Room small, bed uncomfortable. Everything extra.
Plus: Great location. Quiet and close to everything. Room was adequate for my purposes and comfortable to sleep in. The staff was helpful and friendly. Will definitely come back.
Plus: Quiet, private.
Minus: I arrived at 7am but paid for the night before because I needed to sleep. At 12 noon it here was a nock on the door and a moment later a phone call. They wanted me to check out even though I had a five day reservation . Actually should not of been charged for the first day because I didn't get what I paid for, sleep.
The staff was always to busy on the computer to acknowledge guest unless you engaged them.
Plus: Clean rooms, nice decor
Minus: Not best value for the money. Breakfast expensive
Plus: The room was large by European standards. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Great location. Would definitely stay here again.
Plus: 20-40 min walk from most attractions. Great proximity to soccer stadium.
Minus: No gym.
Plus: Nice enough décor
Minus: Small rooms, limited amenities, somewhat close to downtown, at least 25 minute walk.
Plus: The staff who checked us in knew very little about the area, telling us we would have to ride a busy to down town when in actuality it's walkable (w/ a 5 1/2yro) in about 25 minutes. She additionally was no help with bus fair, stops, or routes. We adventured and found our way fairly easily. There is no pool on site, the one they mention is across the highway and down a side street but heated and great for families. The breakfast was mediocre, luke warm food and not many choices. our room faces the parking lot/highway and had windows so dirty it was difficult to see out of them. The room was extremely hot, even after turning the heat off and the noise from outside (cars & people walking to and from partying until 4:30 am) kept us up most of the night. Overall this was the worst nights sleep of our trip & the worst accommodations we had.
Minus: The whole experience was less than desirable.
Plus: -Buffet breakfast included was delicious.
-The swimming center close by is a must for families!
-Rooms were clean, and compact.
-Allowed us to check-in at 8am!!
Minus: -Distance from city center; We had a car rented, so not an issue.
-Allowed us to check-in at 8am!! Received a smaller room than booked, but appreciative of the convenience of unloading all our bags immediately.
Plus: We had a comfortable room, and the location was a bit far from down town, but it was a great place to stay. There are a variety of restaurants in the two-or-so blocks from the hotel, one is right next door. The best part was one of the desk employees, Arnar. He was super helpful, cheerful, and friendly, but what he really stands out for (IMHO) is how he saved the day when one of us messed up on some reservations. We would have missed the whole thing and lost our money. He made some calls and got us rescheduled and arranged transportation to the event. Whew! I was beyond thankful. He saved the day.
Minus: Wish we would have had a room with a view.
Plus: Very friendly staff and nice bar downstairs. Modern decor.
Minus: Rooms are extremely small. Windows are not very tight in cold weather. Location is not great, about 2 miles from downtown.
Plus: 20-40 Min promenad från de flesta attraktioner. Fantastisk närhet till fotbollsstadion.
Minus: Ingen gym.
Plus: Everything about this stay was fantastic. The rooms were massive by European standards and so were the beds. They were heated nicely and had heated towel racks, lighting and tech was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good.
Minus: The only downside is you aren't right downtown but it's tough to say really what downtown actually is. It's such a big sprawl of a city so it's in Reykjavik but just not the heart I guess, they have a shuttle to make up for this.
Plus: Luxury hotel
Minus: Location was a bit away from the city centre. Taxi cabs are very expensive.
Plus: They were very Eco-friendly and "green." Pretty clean and modern.
Minus: The staff was not very accommodating at all. I reserved a superior room with a double bed, and they gave us 2 twin beds. After speaking with the front desk, all they could tell us was that they are fully booked, and that you're never guaranteed the type of bed you want, but we could push the 2 twin beds together if we'd like. No, thank you. We were only staying there for one night, so we decided not to push the issue.
Checkout is at noon, but after reading the hotel info they provide you with in the room, I saw they offer late checkout at 2pm as an option. So, that evening I called the desk to request late checkout, and the woman I spoke with could not give me a yes or no. She said I have to speak with the day staff. I called at 8am the following morning and the woman informed me again that they are fully booked. Ok, but I'm just asking to check out at 2pm. Check in for any new guests is at 4pm. That still gives cleaning crew 2 hours to get the room ready for any new guests arriving. I even tried to compromise and say can we at least stay until 1pm? We were catching the shuttle to the airport at 2pm from the hotel, and didn't have anywhere to go for 2 hours if we checked out at noon. She told me they could hold our luggage and we could go downtown and shop. No, I'm not risking missing the airport shuttle because you told me to go to town and spend $$. So after me asking the same question in 4 different ways, she finally said ok, you can check out at 1pm. Well wow! Thanks a million, Grand Hotel. We won't be staying with you on our next trip to Iceland.
Plus: Excellent bathroom
Good size room
Good free wifi signal
Minus: Bed was rather uncomfortable
Lack of TV channels
Interactive TV features simply don't work
Plus: Comfortable bed.
Plus: The hotel was very clean, staff were helpful, our room had a beautiful view of the city and the water, and the room itself was nice. The double bed fit two large adults easily, which was a concern when we were booking. The bathroom also included a tub in addition to the shower. The lobby area was nice with large doors to see out when waiting for tour guides or cabs, and was filled with pamphlets of various activities. Hair dryer/iron & board/mini fridge and laundry service pick up available.
Minus: The location was a bit further from the city than anticipated, it's listed as a medium walking distance, it is walkable, just not desirable on cold/rainy nights, approximately 20kr cab ride. The dinner buffet was fairly expensive and we didn't really care for it, we preferred the restaurants around the corner or in town and the cost was similar or less, potentially regular ordering tasted better than the buffet. No shampoo/conditioner/lotion, I always bring my own, but wanted to note.
Plus: They have all the basics. The hotel may be good for large groups/bus loads of people who need a place far from city center to rest for a night.
Minus: Politely rude staff: At 1:45 PM and earlier they say "Checkin is at 2 PM". Service Industry speak for Piss Off. 1:58 PM, "Your room is not ready". 2:02 PM, "We don't know if it is ready" (communication problems with housekeeping?)
They sometimes seemed annoyed answering questions people had about how to go somewhere in the city or which day excursions are available. "Here's a brochure." is their typical answer. They never tell you the actual details of where to go or what to expect.
Rooms were very basic. Tiny pillows on bed. Two cotton comforters on double bed, each was the size of a large towel.
Breakfast and Dinner are very over priced.
Plus: Nice parking lot
Minus: Room was very warn, sheets did not fit the bed and furniture was dirty. Staff was not friendly. The hotel was not inexpensive and was probably the second worst I have ever stayed in. I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel.
Plus: Easy access, lots of parking, modern building and rooms
Great to see Monaco and Cyprus Olympic teams there too,
Plus: Breakfast Buffet was excellent, lots of nice areas to sit in in lobby and restaurant. Nice staff.
Plus: The duvet. Very comfortable. The breakfast is included and very filling, especially to brave the cold of Rekyavik.
Minus: The staff did mess up our tour reservation once and we had to ask management time and again for something to be done about it. The desk in the room had some coffee stains and the shower door does not prevent the water from going all over the bathroom! Plus the hotel was definitely a bit distant from city center.
Plus: Staff was very responsive to our request to change rooms. Rooms had a nice (small) outside sun deck.
Minus: It's a little far from the tourist area (shops and restaurants) but that might be an advantage as we got more exercise.
Plus: Just the cutestest hostel ever. Very trendy, clean and comfortable. Spacious rooms, clean bathrooms and showers. Guests were very respectful. Had no trouble sleeping in the evenings. Great bar and sitting area in the reception area to drink and meet other travelers. Food was delicious at the restaurant. Excellent location, located on the main road, central in downtown. Most tours pick up just outside their door steps, as well as local bus stops. Although, it's easy to walk everywhere from there. Absolutely, love it and hope to stay there again one day.
Minus: No negatives.
Plus: Decent price and location
Minus: Much dirtier in person
Kitchen appliances don't work (stoves, ovens, microwaves) so use and need of kitchen is pointless
People staying there do not clean their dishes, and cleaning crew doesn't do them either, so there's always a sink full of dirty dishes and no utensils.
Advertises soap and shampoo provided yet they give 1 tiny bottle of shampoo that people end up stealing so no soap or shampoo
Same with the soap in the bathrooms. No soap.
Checked out a day early (almost 30 hours early) yet told that no refund would be given because not given 24 hours notice (?)
Plus: Classy breakfast buffet, wide spaces in the dorm rooms, not too cramped, evening shift front desk worker "Gary the Great" is a not a cool friendly dude, but extremely helpful.
Plus: laid back fun atmosphere
Minus: There was nothing I didn't like
Plus: Friendly staff, decent location, clean dorms, nice locker for suitcase.
Minus: Not having bathrooms for both sexes on both sides of the floor. Layout of dorms not great. Bad internet
Plus: This review is about the two floors of the hotel which are a hostel, not a hotel.
They lend you a tiny (nearly a joke, I guess) lock to put on the small cubby boxes in the room. 1000ISK deposit.
The kitchen contains dishwashers.
Minus: I stayed in a room with 12 or 14 beds. The doors on these rooms are "underdamped", meaning they are designed or adjusted to slam very very loudly if you let them close by themselves. It shakes not just the room, but is even obnoxious during the day if you're in a common kitchen or lounge down/across the hall. The door in my room was slammed AT ALL HOURS of the day except 12h30 -- 03h00 a.m. by the absurdly inconsiderate guests.
The problem is that there is no effort by the hostel to tell people how to behave, and for some reason a large cross-section of the sample of young travellers in my room seem entirely oblivious to the surely-obvious effects of their actions on other people. There were no quiet hours announced. No one was told to close doors quietly.
I was dumbfounded how people stayed up shouting, drinking, etc inside the dorm room (there are couches) until midnight, even when others were obviously trying to sleep, and the same people when they were on a different schedule, were up at 03h a.m. sharp talking loudly, and slamming the door countless times again.
I mentioned to the staff that there was an educational solution (maybe) to this problem, but they didn't seem very interested.
In addition to all that, the rooms, which look nothing nice as clean as in the pictures online (of course), have little cubby boxes below the beds where you supposedly can lock your valuables. The locking tabs are a bit of a joke, maybe, but in my room several were actually broken off anyway, so there was no way to lock them.
This was my worst hostel experience ever.
Plus: Avslappnat roliga atmosfären
Minus: Det fanns inget jag gillade inte

Minus: 3 restrooms/floor, walkable to city center and grocery stores but not within 10 min
Minus: We weren't notified in advance that Centerhotel had moved us to another hotel. We were exhausted from traveling and would have appreciated nothing more than going to sleep at the hotel we booked.
The staff at the Arnarhvoll did order a taxi that took us to the new hotel. The hotel we were bumped to, Centerhotel Plaza, was in a better location in the downtown.
Plus: The design of the hotel is great. Its very modern and sleek.
The views are fantastic. Whether you're at the Sky Lounge or the comfortable lobby, you can clearly see the beautiful harbor and mountain range.
The location of the hotel is also great. Its right by the downtown area and can easily walk to the strip without the barrage of traffic. The hotel is also 5 minutes from many museums and shops by the harbor and beyond.
Minus: Because of the central location, space is tight. The room offers minimal storage and the bathroom has a convertible shower that takes advantage space. The design was beautiful but the quarters were close.
The breakfast was OK. It was the first meal I had where fish was not an option. The crumbled eggs were dry and actually crunchy. Bacon was either burnt or raw. However, the view from the top of the hotel easily distracted these inconveniences.
Plus: A great hotel, staff great, great location
Minus: Photos on website do not give true reflection of accommodation. It is actually a second rate motel.
Minus: Very basic rooms. Breakfast selections are very minimum.
Plus: Privacy and friendly staff at the reception. Good people standing behind the desk.
Plus: The staff was very friendly and helpful with information on getting around Reykjavik. The food was excellent. Loved the Folk art and displays in the lobby. It was a very nice stay for my first visit to Iceland.
Minus: The only thing that didn't work was th TV in our room. When the staff couldn't seem to fix it we were given vouchers for a beverage of our choice from the bar. It worked out just fine, instead of sitting in our room we went out and about the city and had a great time, better than TV any day!
Plus: Nice rooms, welcoming staff at reception, very clean and comfy. Not walking distance to downtown Reykajvik, but still a very pleasant hotel. If you are going to leisure I would make sure you have a rental car.
Minus: The restaurant wasn't that great, (underdone chicken), waitstaff wasn't friendly, especially if your breakfast wasn't part of the package. The spa staff gave contradictory information to reception staff, so better communication would've been helpful .
Plus: Crisp, clean rooms. Sharp lines very modern look inside
Minus: Breakfast is a barely mediocre buffet for 3000isk (about $30) a person
Plus: Located directly next to domestic airport in Reykjavik - very convenient since I flew in/out of airport - walked to airport - no need to take expensive taxi - clean room - friendly staff
Plus: The room and all amnesties were great. Very comfortable for our last night in Iceland.
Minus: The extra charges for breakfast were quite high.
Plus: Nice location, but the rooms were dated, the TV was very old, the wifi worked intermittently, the breakfast buffet was pricey, and the beds were not comfortable.
Plus: Interior of the hotel was very clean, location was pretty good, and the free WiFi was useful and worked well. Room was much quieter than many hotels, with earplugs in I only heard hallway noises (not the people next door, above, and below, as is common). Breakfast was decent (but plates, bowls, utensils, and cups could be in short supply). Check-in was inconvenient but they do have a nice luggage room and were perfectly willing to hold our bags both day of arrival and day of departure, while we did some sightseeing.
Minus: It felt a lot like a hostel - difference being the fact they provided sheets and own bathroom. Breakfast was better than what's offered at most hostels I've stayed at but felt very similar otherwise (complete with threatening signs). Our reservation paperwork said check-in was at 2:00--when we arrived, staff was insistent that it was 3:00, and no, no early check-in available. Well before 3:00, the lobby was crowded with people waiting to check-in.
Plus: Good price. Clean. Free Breakfast. Shuttle to the bust terminal.
Minus: Tiny beds and bathroom. Not the best location in Reykjavik.
Plus: Room looked like it had been take from an Ikea Catalogue - devoid of any decoration. We stayed in the new section which was very clean and the beds firm. The inclusion of a fridge was a nice addition. Iceland it seems is always cold and the heating in the hotel worked very efficiently. WiFi worked well in the rooms. The young men who worked on the front desk were always helpful and friendly in arranging tours and airport buses. Its close location to downtown was nice - the whole area around the hotel is undergoing renovation so there is some noise with possibly more to come when the hotel across the street starts work. Theses inconveniences are possibly why the hotel has such competitive rates.
Minus: Having stayed in Iceland previously I found the lack of variety in the breakfast difficult after 4 days. Food is incredibly expensive in Iceland so the inclusion of a cold breakfast with juice and coffee is a great added advantage. In the new section small things like a tv that you can view from the bed (as there is only one chair) would have been a great idea instead of mounting it directly to the wall close to the window. An electric kettle would be a nice addition an added item in most English, Scottish and European hotels we stayed in.

Plus: fantastic location and great views of Hallsgrimkirja, dinner and breakfast are good (price for dinner somewhat similar to other locals in downtown),
Minus: no variation in breakfast items (not a terrible thing though)
Plus: Close to nearby sights and attractions. Good place to stay if only in Reykjavik for a night or 2 and want to shop and see local attractions.
Minus: The description said there was parking but there isn't. Parking meters are all around hotel but need to be fed every 2 hours.
Plus: The room was very clean and the hotel is lovely.
Breakfast tasted good.
Minus: The room was really small.
The bathroom doesn't look like it has been updated.
They don't tell you the price of anything like breakfast, pay per view, mini bar. We would have potentially bought somethings,, but we were too afraid because we didn't know how much they would charge.
Plus: The friendliness of the staff is unparalleled. The rooms were crisp looking in general. It was decorated elegantly in black white and touches of gray. There were some unused tissues lying on the floor outside of our room for the duration of our stay. They also had a funky smell that we couldn't get rid of. But overall the hotel look beautiful. And the staff was very accommodating
Plus: The hotel is in a great spot downtown, easy walking distance everywhere. It has a Northern European modern design, simple but elegant. Love the old building. Hot water kettle in the room is awesome after exploring. Staff was courteous and friendly.
Minus: The bathrooms do not seem to match the rest of the room and hotel feel. They need to be updated.
Plus: Comfortable, spacious
Minus: Random breakfast policy. First stay breakfast included, second stay was charged.
Minus: Everything was dirty, including the common kitchen, and the front desk gave te let to our room to another guest who ealked right into our room while we were sleeping! They don't care, so don't stay there. The plae doesn't even have a sign to find it.
Plus: Despite having been put in the wrong room at the beginning, they made it okay with free breakfast. We arrived earlier than check-in time and were exhausted and they accommodated us, just in a family style room that we had to move out of the following day.
Minus: Was not really in the center of town. Wish they had had a map on the wall or a brochure that showed where they were in relationship to downtown Reykjavik.

Plus: Located very close to city center, so easily walkable to the majority of places of interest in the city. Very clean. Pleasant and helpful staff, who can also assist with excursion bookings / rebookings. Tea / coffee available in the room. Included breakfast perfectly adequate for a continental buffet and set us up well for the day.
Minus: Our room (admittedly that we had at a very good price) was a little snug, although did serve our purposes. Upgraded rooms are available at an additional cost (subject to availability - the hotel was full when we were there). Very hot in the room overnight - even with the window open.
Plus: For the price, I was able to get an incredibly comfortable and quiet room. The breakfast was good, the reception was helpful, and the location was central.
Minus: I thought the two beds pushed together was odd (but acceptable), I also didn't care for the showers as they had no water pressure. Also, I don't get why the TV had so many channels if only 3 of them worked.
Plus: Nice stay, very affordable

Minus: We made the mistake of using the Flyjet bus-- horrible mistake!!! We had 4 adults, 4 year old, and 20 month old, and had no idea that the bus would not take us to the hotel. Instead we had to transfer from big bus to small bus, hauling our luggage and placing on small bus. Then we were unloaded 2 blocks from the hotel, and had to haul our luggage up a hill to the hotel. Some stairs in the hotel to the first level to get to the elevator.
Plus: Central location and well-sized room and bathtub for european standards.
Plus: Good location, nice building.
Minus: Difficult to get into hotel after-hours, must rely on frequently-absentee front desk employee to manually let in.
Plus: Straight forward transaction. Very convenient location. Always had someone at the front desk. Breakfast was good.
