Very little staff, certainly not enough to satisfy the amount of guests, not 5 star service quality
The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Our apartment was beautiful and very spacious. The pool and gym facilities were excellent as was the spa. Would definitely return there. There should be a shuttle bus available to bring people into Carvoeiro. The cost of taxis certainly added up after a week. While the apartment was cleaned daily nobody wiped the surfaces and we had to ask several times for dishwasher tablets.
Calm and nice place for relaxing. Wonderful staff. The restaurant and the snack-bar were very poor. Dry meat and bad cooking. It´s a shame that this very nice hotel can´t serve good food. They did know how to charge you for the food, but cook it... No!
Beautifully appointmented and definitely a 5 star feel, food was fantastic, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the place had a very relaxing feel, and the kids loved it. It was perfect for us location wise also. No wireless internet, it wasn't working, and I had to use the hotels computer behind the reception desk. Which was great of the staff, who were very helpful, but I do feel provsion should be made for a computer for guests to use in a private area, or even better the wireless should be repaired.

Quite a peaceful place to stay - it was very quiet there when we arrived but got busier as the week went on. Lovely clean rooms and the whole hotel had a luxury feel to it, and it felt high quality. Lovely peaceful location in the countryside but easy to get to local towns and beaches. The hotel felt a bit soulless at times, partly because it was so quiet. It felt like there should be more going on or more things organised but there was little information about what the hotel offered (no general guide in your room, for example).The service was laid back, which was good, and most people were friendly and helpful but it lacked 5 Star attentiveness that we've experienced in other resorts of this calibre. It's like 5 Star but you're left to your own devices, so if that's what you're after it's great.
Pool området var helt underbart. Frukosten samt personalen vid frukosten var underbara. Vi åt även en medelhavs buffe en kväll och den var jätte bra. Dock var det enda gången vi åt middag på hotellet. Receptions personal var fruktansvärd, de var otrevliga. Rummen höll absolut inte 5 stjärnig klass. Servicen var absolut inte 5 stjärning. För mig var det endast pool området som gjorde att man kan klassa detta som ett 5 stjärnigt hotell.

Riktigt fint hotell som jag skulle kategorisera som lyxhotell. Hotellets läge är perfekt nära stranden på strandgatan med alla mysiga restauranger! Vi firade vår bröllopsresa vid detta hotell och hotellet var verkligen en positiv överraskning! Vi hade en sea view suite på sjätte våningen, och trots att jag reser mycket från jobbet har jag/vi aldrig haft så fin och skön utsikt! Billig parkering i parkeringsutrymmet under hotellet är ett plus om man har hyrbil. Rekommenderar varmt detta hotell till alla! Frukosten var helt OK, men kändes efter några dagar som väldigt enformig. Så efter en vecka blev urvalet ganska trist. Därtill saknades grönsaker vid frukostbordet. Mer variation och grönsaker så skulle det ha varit riktigt toppen. Pool-området är aningen litet, även om vi aldrig utnyttjade det, då stranden är riktigt intill!
Frächt, nybyggt hotell. Nära havet. Ligger perfekt i slutet på shopping/restaurang- gatan. Trevlig hotell- frukost. Vår dotters säng hade ingen bäddmadrass !!?? Vi lade dit en filt som vi vek ett antal gånger (den var stor) så det fixade sig hjälpligt.
We stayed in September 2010 when the hotel was new and some facilities were not available. The accommodation was excellent and very spacious. The pool was lovely and there were always plenty of sunbeds available. The food at breakfast was good though sometimes slo in being replenished Although the food at breakfast was good and the staff were very nice service was very eratic.There were lots of staff milling around at times but they were very disorganised and sometimes there would be a long wait for tables to be cleared of food trays to be filled. The hot water in the villas was provided by a hot water tank and if all four of us tried to shower one after the other the hot water would run out.
The location was good and the layout excellent. The apartment was more than we had expected from the web site information. We were disappointed with the second evening meal we had at the restaurant and it was not up to the standard of the one we had earlier in the week.
Beautiful location and setting. a very nice resort. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Superb breakfast buffet, good restaurant, lovely pool, suites very comfortable Breakfast times could be extended - this might help with seating difficulties. Definitely need more sun umbrellas as it gets very hot.
top rated hotel in every aspect, simply wonderful.You must come with a car though, otherwise you need taxi to/from hotel to town or back. none whatsoever - all was perfect.
The accommodation was new and much larger than usually found. The accommodation is in self catering villas. The spa treatments were too expensive to make use of.
The quality and the price (77 euros per night). your normal prices seem extravagant
The breakfast was great with a wide selection of choices and the apartments were beautiful, fully equipped.
Ett utmärkt hotell på en av Europas bästa kuster. Nära till det mesta och med åtskilliga fina golfbanor inom 20 min med bil. På detta hotell kan man verkligen slappna av om man behöver eller ha som bas för en massa aktiviteter. Mycket god service och personalen har helt rätt inställning till sina kunder.
We liked everything, great view from terrace, hotel (apartments) itself, staff was very helpful: we were assigned a house which was way too far from the house our friends had so we asked in the reception to change it and they changed to the one next to our friends. The beach is a bit far, like 10-15 minutes from the hotel, you have to take the stairs down there.
Very helpful and pleasant personnel, very clean and large territory, free wi-fi zone, comfortable apartment. We will strongly recommend to the hotel management to change home appliances - washing mashine, coffee mashine and fridge - everything were in bad condition and rusty.We were travelling with one year old baby and for us was very important easy access to to the beach and playground. In reality we had to use a car to go to the beach, playground was small and not clean.

Good location, very clean, well serviced Did not take notice of request for four single beds, although this was written on the booking form, this resulted in being transfered to very cold accomodation which took approx 2 days to warm up.
Friendly staff and good restaurant.
Our room had a lighthouse shining into it over the night we stayed. The house also smelt heavily of smoke atlthough we had requested a non smoking house. We moved to the Cloina Da Lapa on the second day and our stay there was fantastic.
Very calm place, with a lot of space outside the villa to enjoy the good weather of Algarve. More children activities during the day.

Calm, awy from city busttle
The villa was clean, spacious, light and airy. Majority of staff were excellent and happy to help out when asked - a couple of the bar staff had a bit of an attitude which let the rest of the staff on site down. Gardens and surrounding areas were well looked after. A suggestion to help improve on comfort/relaxation would be better quality patio furniture and furniture on the balconies.
It was very relaxing and quiet (particularily at night time), villas were very clean and spacious, with good distance between each, adding a sense of privacy. We noticed that some guests allowed their children to use the kiddies pool without any clothes on, this happened on more than one occasion. At one point, one of these children started pee'ing in the kiddies pool, I thought the bar staff should have asked the parents to put swimming shorts/diapers on the children, but this never happened.
Everything was very good except for the cleaning of the room. The toilet was cleaned with dirty water. The horrible smell was throughout the entire floor.
Lovely, quiet location, very peaceful, helpful staff. Some of the facilities closed unexpectedly, probably due to the fact there were so few guests. The restaurant was closed unexpectedly, and sometimes didn't open in the evenings, and the same was true for the shop.
The hotel and apartments themselves were clean I couyld write an easy here- the hotel first and foremost is not 4 star- the accomodation and apartments were bog basic and for the money we paid for it I odnt think it was justified at all. We were there for a wedding and most of the wedding party were staying accorss the orad in "presa De Morra" apartments & villas- which turned out to actually be cheaper than our accomodation and un comparible in terms of comfort- presa De Mora is 10 times more luxurious then Colin Da Lapa and a much nicer resort in general. When I went to management to complain that I was mislead by the internet infomration/pictures etc for Colina Da Lapa and its star rating, mamagement were not helpfull at all. Minimarket is never open either- another false service lis

The apartment we had was spacious, well equiped and clean, the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The complex itself is set in lovely grounds with plenty of space between each residence. The mini-market, bar and restuarant were all closed, although it's low season I think this situation needs addressing.
Nothing When I arrived they could not take a credit card, so had to pay cash. They di not ask for my passport, and then asked me to provide it at 2am when I returned to the hotel. Staff were surly, breakfast was uneatable, and TV did not work in room
Manuel on reception was brilliant! Loved the pool and rooms were cleaned daily. Hotel is in the thick of the town and you have everything you need within walking distance. sunbeds were very uncomfortable.
The hotel provides good accommodation at value for money prices. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Despite some bad reviews of the decor, we thought it was bright and modern. The pool is great... set up a tab in advance and then swim up, sit on your stool and enjoy a cold beer in the pool. There is an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi if its cold outside as well. Breakfast was fine and always re-stocked when we were there. The location was great for us. Not right in the centre of the 'strip' of restaurants but close enough to walk to the beach or local bars and restaurants (it is up a slight hill though if you're less able) Our fridge didn't work which was a little annoying as we would have liked to have kept the drinks cold

The Hotel staff were very helpful and polite There was no soap or shampoo etc in our room. We stayed off season and for just one night, so maybe that was the reason.
Central position of the hotel within the resort The breakfasts were poor, with luke warm food. Also the decor of the hotel was enough to induce a migraine

The Vilalara is the most beautiful relaxing , peaceful and magical place I have ever stayed at. The staff are exceptional , the location is unimaginable and the peace and quiet is a tonic for life. I will visit the Vilalara many more times in the future without doubt. We have traveled extensively but this has got the be the top of our list for summer vacation. We hereby thank all the staff at Vilalara for a wonderful stay. there truly is nothing to dislike

The resort is fascinating with breathtaking views of the beach. The view overlooking the pool is spectacular. The hotel has its own private beach which is beautiful. The hotel is landscaped very well with beautiful plants and flowers. The rooms are big and spacious, and the staff is very courteous. Would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone considering visiting Faro. The hotel should have had a tea/ coffe maker in the room. For the price you charge, this is an expectation. To call for room service costs 5 euro per person which normally other similar resorts worldwide do not chanrge
Spacious room, fully carpeted, well furnished; low rise accommodation; beautiful gardens and cliff top location. Daily change of complimentary pool towels. Restaurant prices are much too high.
Wonderful grounds everything on site
marvellous place! excellent dinner. Not so good service for price and quality of food. Improvement is needed in staff. We ordered a glass of "Morgado de Ste Catherine" and another wine was served with no explanation.

Excellent hotel in beautiful gardens, very nice staff, perfect for a resting family holiday. High standart new rooms. We were there a couple of years ago and will return for sure in the future! The Spa is wonderful. Only quite expensive. More attention should be given to room cleaning for this luxury hotel

Fint och stort poolområde som passar bra för barnfamiljer och bra med en uppvärmd inomhuspool. Bra frukost. Lugnt läge och trevlig och hjälpsam personal. Eftermiddagssol på balkongen. Långt att gå till närmaste supermarket och vettiga restauranger, hotellet ligger lite avsides. Aningen kallt vatten i utomhuspoolen. Dyr mat i restaurangerna.

Trevligt och professionellt bemötande. Fantastiskt läge med utsikt över fin marina och med Atlanten i fonden. Sängkuddarna kunde ha varit större och mjukare.

Perfekt läge för den som tycker om bad på fantastisk strand som även lämpar sig för familjer med små barn. Den portugisiska befolkningen dominerar vilket gör det hela trevligare.
In addition to the above, I liked the peace & tranquility & space in general, in particular the spacious grounds, gardens etc. I was disappointed with the quality of furniture on my balcony given the fact that I observed furniture of quality in similar suites where I was based, furniture on my balcony was that of a 1 or 2 star Hotel, I have already indicated my disaproval on the personal questionaire at the Hotel, I would at some stage like a report directly to me regarding the unsuitable furniture on my balcony, I stayed in 7 Oasis Parc at the Hotel.
We were impressed with the staff who were very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of repeat clientele for that reason The Hotel has a few restaurants to choose from so you can choose to dine in any one of them. We liked Arte Nautica as it is on the beach in Armacao de Pera - stunning location and brilliant fish, or you can have a snack The location isnt so great as it is out of town. If you are not mobile you will need to hire a car or take a taxi which are cheap and plentiful. The staff seemed to push their very expensive New Year dinner and there wasnt much choice. to dine elsewhere. They also naughtily put the costs of two New Years dinner on our bill when we hadnt even booked or attended the event which goes to show that behind the staff smiles there is the pound signs motive to make as much money as possible from their guests! We were not convinced the hospitality was genuine for that reason especially when the staff all repeated the same sentence - is there anything we can do for you. It seemed they attended a management school and were taught to say that
Everything was brilliant,with the exception of below. Food was not up to a good standard, but was not overpriced.
Variety of restaurants, quality of food, amazing beach with beds and professional level of SPA. Servants in the restaurants expressed quite strong dissatisfaction if the tips were less than 10 %.

excellent service by staff, beautiful grounds, private beach & overall pleasant ambience. Good buffet breakfast Forget the bar snacks - both too expensive and very poorly prepared. The main restaurant was acceptable - just. The food was OK but not exceptional however the prices were very high. You can easily find a better dining experience outside the hotel so only go to this restaurant if you really don't want to leave the hotel surroundings.

The standard of housekeeping was very poor. Room not made up some days until late evening despite several calls to reception. Only on last day was this satisfactory.
Great setting; fantastic golf; hotel with a lot of charm and personality; casual but professional lunch at the Cotton Club and a marvellous wine tasting dinner at the Grill restaurant on Nov 12! A fantastic experience. Need to rent a car if you want to escape
I have been visiting Penina for over 30 years now - it is truly a special place. The setting is spectacular, with immaculate golf courses, and beautiful garden areas. Facilites are superb and the staff are charming. With fewer than 200 rooms, the hotel never feels crowded. Highly recommended.
Wen I arrive, the room that was reserved to me was very poor ( a two stars hotel dont have a room like that ). I made a complain and they change the room. But I think a 5 Stars Hotel can put a guess in a room like that, and if we go to a Hotel like this one, we never think that we must have to discuss the quality of a room
Superb surrondings, very charming hotel with tasteful decoration. Huge swimming pool. Very efficient service. And a super plus, fresh toals and private chaise-longs on the nearst beach. We just loved our stay. No free Wi-Fi; but that forced us to disconnect more :-)

Swiming pool and garden. If you are not a golf player, this is not a hotel to stay in. It is far from anywhere I.E. Alvor and Lagos. Rooms are average for 5 star hotels. No beach nearby. Their private beach is not good for swimming: too cold.
The beds were incredibly comfortable! We had booked a wine/pairing dinner hence decided to stay overnight. It was a nice event but we were both ill that night and the next day. At first we thought we'd had too much wine (a few glasses but I don't think more than anyone else at dinner). We mentioned at checkout feeling a bit rough but we still had mild food poisoning type symptoms the rest of the day and realised it was in fact 'in the stomach' and not a hangover! It was difficult to know what to do but we thought the chef ought to know in case it was bad seafood ? so we reported it to the hotel front desk later on 13th but she wasn't very helpful. It's not a complaint as we didn't ask her to do anything only to tell the chef and to be aware others might report symptoms.
