old world charm but shows signs of fading service in Oscars restaurant fell well below expected standard
good customer service rooms quite small
The breakfast was very delightful, lot of choices and they do cater for vegetairans and those who use soya milk. The spa facilities were good. However, I would say that the hotel needs refurbishment and some area needs modernisation. Being told that we are limited to one towel each by one particular member in the spa club. This was not the case with other staff members.
Leisure facilities £15 to pay for car parking. No mention of this until we had arrived. Staff could be a little overzealous. We received the bill for our evening meal before we had had our dessert and coffee and our table was cleared while we were getting our cooked breakfast
I liked the atmosphere, facilities and the staff who were most helpful and friendly. I did experience some problems with accessing my room with the card that was provided to me. It often didn't work and this caused me some inconvenience. I would have been much better off with a good old fashioned key! However, the staff made every effort to resolve this problem by upgrading me to a different room with a sea view. I considered this to be outstanding customer service.
Nice spacious room and spacious general areas staff were very obliging. Could not control temperature in room which got very hot. But in fairness that is a problem a lot of older hotels have.
The buffet breakfast was superb, especially the honeycomb. Im the first room we were given the central heating was not wotking and we had to move to another room, but nobody came to help us with our luggage and we had to carry it all ourselves - not what one expects from a 4-star hotel especially as my wife and I are in our late seventies
The hotel was very comfortable. The service in the restaurant for breakfast was not good.
Received room upgrade. Very good service
It was a disaster. We could not stay. We were given a room next to their waste hold area. The window would not open because all the rubbish bins were just outside. The room was tight and horrible. We left immediately. See our comments of 'what we liked'. Terrible hotel. Needs total modernisation, as location is good. Need new staff, training, etc. avoid staying there at all costs!
A very comfortable bed having to wait in line to get a breakfast table
Everyone was helpful & friendly. An ideal spot for all locations in the area.
Central location very limited carparking hotel needs a make over, quite dated
the pool and sauna .breakfast the room was an insult ,bathroom outdated and very dirty shower unfit to use . plugs loose on walls wallpaper a disgrace ,torn and dirty.
when handing in my key the receptionist could not give me a receipt for the room have requested copy but by 6th July still waiting
we found the location ideal for the shops and theatre. The breakfast was very good and the staff very polite and friendly. creaky floorboards and the housekeeping staff started vacumming at 8.30 in the room upstairs. Also building work taking place although this was probably reflected in the price we paid.
Decor very very tired (corridors & bathroom) It was a typical old fashioned "seaside" hotel... the bathroom hasn't been changed since the 70's (nasty pink suite) and had a mouldy/damp smell. The room also felt extremely draughty and cold, despite the heating being on! The staff were friendly enough though. So to sum up, it is OK for one night.
Welcoming staff for English speakers but noticed lack of skill at reception for foreigners ie rapid, complex sentences, given once, no body language or reference to local town map etc. I saw two foreigners bemused despite being given instructions which only I could just follow. A little bit ot raining might help! Just a friendly observation - not meaning to be too critical!
a up grad of room free of carge noizy nabbears but was lookd aferter
The staff and the breakfast were superb. The bedroom smelt, believe it emminated from the mattress. Arrived late too tired not until next day the smell had ingressed into clothing. Decor poor and needs complete refurbishment.
This hotel offered free WIFI & Parking, and the room only cost £32! The receptionist was very helpful and friendly and I got a free room upgrade. The food in the diner was very good and well priced. Can't really work out why people were moaning, the price is fantastic and everywhere is very clean. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated but its comfortable and the cheapest around so well worth it for a short break. everyone stop moaning and pay more if you expect 5 star services At best, the floorboards outside my room were a bit creaky and there was no blind in the bathroom, which didn't particularly bother me
clenlyness Menu a bit limited
the bed was nice as were the pillows, towls nice and thick would have liked more chose of food from menu at night, only the taster menu on offer which was over priced
A luxurious room with a roll top bath in the window alcove, very attentive and friendly staff and excellent food in the restaurant, what more could you ask for. Plainer biscuits with the room service cheese !!! but thats all.
I wanted to experience a "Green" hotel. I was very impressed and felt well informed about their efforts to be as eco friendly as possible. The hotel has been restored beatifully, fabulous beds and great food.
It was overall an excellent stay. The room was simply lovely, the food was delicious and so was the wine on their list. The hotel is very stylish and offers a homly feeling right away when one enters. That I coundn't stay longer... ;-)
We stayed at this hotel to attend a wedding and reception. The Orchid has excellent facilities for both weddings and wedding receptions and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Friendly staff. Value for money Nothing to dislike
Good Scrambled egg and service at Breakfast.
went to a show at the b i c
the setting and breakfast sqeaky floor boards and windows were hard to shut.
It was very clean and modern and the staff were very friendly No food in the evenings. There was no sound proofing in the room, when the people came into the room above it was like they were sat in the room with us
The reception and lounge area was very attractively decorated and inviting. All the staff we dealt with were very pleasant and helpful. The bedrooms were very basic and the blinds in our room were broken in places. The room was also at the front of the hotel so was quite noisy, however it was clean and warm.
The organisation of my sons wedding was great. The ceremony and the facilities we used made it very special. Some areas needed to be refurbished..... which was a shame.
quirky decor, good parking, spacious public areas, very pleasant restaurant, friendly reception, good last minute room rate, excellent location. had to have breakfast one morning in less pleasant nearby sister hotel; mattress rather thin
the calm and peacful surroundings
Friendly staff and good food. Our room should not have been allocated before the security, locks etc had been repaired.
The comfortable lounges, the attentiveness of the staff and their efforts to please. The bedroom needed an update and was a little sparse.
services and the room. quite and peacful. room was very hot on arrival.
Good size room, great location of hotel, lovely swimming pool bathroom starting to look a bit tired, shower still needing repair
very well situated and the ambience of the whole place was good. restaurent staff were particularly obliging we we in room 97 , ground floor for diabled, not our request, the bathroom did not have adequate window covering so using at night with lights on was awkward and the outsidde door from that room was far from secure
bathroom was dirtyand the main room was very run down ,in need of a referb or a good clean
The first impression of the hotel eg reception, dining room etc was impressive as was the size of our room. Ther bathroom was very dated and could benefit from a complete update
Pleasant and helpful staff.Good food.Warm and comfortable, bright and clean.
Breakfast Bathroom had tiles about to fall off, creaky floorboards, dinner menu choice very poor,
I liked the style of the hotel, different from other Premier Inn's The restaurant staff seemed inexperienced and there didn't appear to be a manager
Beautiful room with balcony, lovely restaurant, great ambience.
We were given a lovely large room which had a seaview. The staff at the hotel reception were friendly and extremely helpful, giving us directions and information about the university which we were going to visit. We stayed in a twin room , the beds were rather hard and uncomfortable.
All facilities excellent including restaurantand service Could not gain access to balcony Directions to carparking not clear when booking
Very relaxing, fabulous breakfast, pleasant staff. Pity about the awful weather though!! Just opposite the Pavillion Theatre where we had tickets to see the Electric Light Orchestra trib band, brilliant!! Nothing negative springs to mind.
My son and I loved the layout, design of room, hotel, the sea views and accessiblity to Bournemouth center. The receptionist very helpful on arrival. Beds were rock hard and pillows to match. Having asked to be moved to a quiet room were given a lovely room but could hear baby crying in adjoining room through night. So both my son and I did not sleep well at all. No hangers for clothing and very little lighting for evening when dark.
Excellent staff, amazing spacious room, clean modern hotel.
Hotel Is Clean, rooms are really nice and a lot of space with great bathrooms.Beds are also comfortable. There's no room service available at the hotel and think they should review this some time in the future. Many people are awake late and want a snack or drink and the hotel doesint offer any.
Great building, bar and restaurant area very well designed and relaxinb atmosphere Unfortunately we were allocated a room suitable for disabled guests which would have been great for a wheelchair user ( having holidayed this year with a friend in a wheelchair and realised how hard it is to find suitable accommodation - this is a real plus) however it meant that we only had a disabled shower in our room and no bath- which for non wheelchair users is a bit disappointing - we were not asked whether this would be OK which I was not happy about.
Balcony doors in our room were locked and this meant there was no escape route other than the main door.We asked at reception and were told that the balconys had not passed the safety inspection and therefore could not be used which we thought was a poor excuse and not complying with Health and Safety Regulations.
The staff was nice and friendly and the room was clean, although a bit aged. The whole hotel is showing its age and could do with some brush ups here and there although it is generally kept in a nice, clean state.
Visited my daughter who is studing at Bournmouth University I would suggest that you visit he Hotel. We stayed in room 8 and it stunk of stale cigeratte smoke. The general state of the room was poor especially the carpets which were antique, stained and held ogether by tape. The bathroom would not have been out of place in a military barracks, altogether not a very pleasent stay. On the positive side that staff were friendly and helpful and the dining area was clean and tidy and the standard of food adaquate. This hotel reflected badley on you site and would make me nervous of using it again against a Premier Inn or Travelodge for example where you know what you get.. Hope this helps
Good location No - everything was fine
pace and quaiet
The food was excellent, particularly at dinner and the service very good relating to all needs. Shower was not the best I've used in a hotel.
it was good to be able to sleep in and not have to leave the room until 2pm, allthough this was at an extra cost. I found the night porter slighty upset that i dared to return after midnight and my companion did not return until the sun had risen again, one can omly wonder what sought of reception he recieved
The staff were friendly and courteous, willing to help and give appropriate information regarding interesting places to visit. Ventilation was not working in the bathroom, bed was not comfortable, noise when you tried to turn---- Broken spring ?
Breakfast Decor - very dated and depressing
Easy walking distance to Bournemouth centre. Breakfast choice was excellent with very good service. Our room had single glazed metal frame windows with no heating, at end September was cold overnight.
Privacy, yet service on hand when required. Efficient booking system
The staff were extremly helpful and the rooms were lovely. Had a few problems with the shower but nothing major.
I cant point to anything Dinning room staff ( very miserable )
When we arrived at 2.30pm the cleaners things were still in our room so mentioned it on way out. When back and had a shower at 6pm found out the towels had not been changed and there was blood and dirt on them. Really not impressed at all.
Comfortable bed, location. No wifi.
Peacful and comfortable The bedroom window had a hole in it and was cracked. Also the curtains could do with replacing as very old.
Location to centre of town
Since I first stayed in Sept 09 the hotel has undergone refurbishment and is a very pleasant place to stay. Food is excellent and plentiful.
The location was ideal. It was very central, only about ten minutes walk to the beach and in a good area. Free onsite parking great as parking in Bournemouth can be hard to find and/or expensive. The room (40) was in need of a make over. It was a bit shabby. The hotel is not really suited for guests with disabilities as there are lots of stairs and the lift is tiny - suitcase sized.
They have trid to make it a modern hotel which has half worked. Still a bit more to do. Heated Towel rail was on and couldn't be turned off (Room 2). Asked at reception to sort and got brushed off 3 times. Middle of August so extreamly uncomfortable nights sleep. Small lift had to carry buggy up stairs.
The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you. Brilliant really. The room we stayed in was dated and in need of upgrading. There was only one lift which was very small (1 person). Again this only went to the 2nd floor which still left steps to take a child up and still required 3 trips with the luggage to the room due to the size of the lift.
