This hotel was comfortable and elegant. Staying over new years they gave us free champagne. However parking was overpriced for what we paid for the hotel.
There were loud noises in the morning from the room above and when I called the front desk on multiple occasions I couldn't get an answer, then received a rude explanation that it would be investigated but the noise contributed. After a $2,000 stay, I left a file and was charged to have it mailed to me. I wouldn't recommend the hotel for ease of stay, but it is clean.

Great hotel location affording some rooms great views. Excellent bathrooms, comfortable beds. Lots of people obviously love it - maybe it helps if you upgrade to the Horizons Club, though I don't see why you should have to, especially as these rates not always on offer. Reception shambolic: no welcome, no porter, no offer of help with bags, no offer to join loyalty programme, told me the Shangri-La in Singapore is tired and needs updating! No apology for not correctly processing reservation. Horrible view of motorway toll booths. Annoying things in the bedroom like unplugged lamps, missing glasses, grubby hotel directory. Food and beverage not good. Saturday night the locals all book up the top floor restaurant and fill up the adjacent bar. Reserve days in advance or you have no chance. For a drink this leaves the Lobby Bar. Neon-lit chilled food cabinet, no music, no atmosphere, bright lighting. Nasty. Only available food outlet The Cafe. Horrible buffet. Dreadful, expensive, over-rated.

Extra attention. They need to replace the little ottoman in the room with a 2nd chair. The king size pillows are too long and too heavy.

Low floor, dirty windows, bad views, receptionist lied about restaurant open at 10PM, Burger cost $30 plus tip, water in room was $10, room was expensive at about $300/night, no loyalty program with airlines except Qantas, shower was open with no door, no microwave, no real conveniences, small room.

The beds need replacement. Two in my room had collapsed. The hotel engineer saidthe box spring was broken, so they offered to put us in another room. I checked and sure enough the mattress was broken there too. They moved us to a beautiful suite, but the floor in the room was too slippery for the wheels and the bed would slide out from the wall while resting, and slide away when standing. The hotel admitted that it knew it had the same problem in another room and ultimately they had to remove the frame to keep it stationary. They need to be more diligent in room inspection.
Very large rooms and bathrooms, a lot of counter space, every room amenity we prefer. Best customer service was they suggested we could use showers in their gym/sauna/pool area when we arrived at 8:00 am after a 15-hour flight. Made such a difference in our day! And they got our room ready by noon, too. And the location can't be beat. This hotel has an "Old English" vibe so if you want a young, hip vibe it's not for you. But if you want to be able to walk to the Circular Quay, Opera House, Royal Boranical Garden, ferries, the Rocks neighborhood, and a train station, it's excellent.
The hotel is ideally situated for visiting tourist attractions such as Circular Quay, the Rocks, the Bridge and the Opera House. Across the road from the hotel are the Botanical Gardens. This is a 5 star hotel and the interior and service reflects this, I did not eat at the hotel so am not sure whether meals are value for money, there are many restaurants and cafes close at hand to suit most budgets. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped, tea and coffee and fresh milk were replaced each day at no extra charge. Overall a very enjoyable stay. The only critisicism I had was that like most hotels the beds were rather hard.
