The online description advised on-site parking, it sure was, at $38 a day, I could have stayed at the Marriott down the road with free parking $38 a day parking, turned my $150 room into a $200 a night room after taxes, very deceiving
Easy about 1 mile walk to back bay. Room smelled musty. First was given a room that wasn't cleaned properly. A shirt was in the corner of the room and a black mascara mark on the pillow. Then was moved to a room with a balcony which was nicer but still smelled musty and had eaten food(baba ganoush) left in the fridge. Housekeeping needs to improve! Will never stay again. Hyatt Regency in East Boston by the airport is way better!
loved my room and the location!
breakfast was very good comfort parking was an additional coast. We had two cars $80 total you can hear what is going on in the whole way and next-door room
It was comfortable. The staff was awesome. It was run down and the parking was over priced considering there was a lot of empty parking spots and outside the city.
Good level of service and venue Pool is too far from rooms
The staff are very nice and accomodating. Rooms are comfortable and include wifi. The restaurant is just ok
Parking shoub be free.... One reazon i change to anotyer hotel.... But the night i stay was perfect.. Larry G
Hotel is clean and comfortable, Free wifi. High parking costs
Good elevator security, location, friendly doormen, the staff apologized for not taking care of my water problem or leaving a note. Didn't fix the loud banging noise when I used the hot water in the bathroom sink, mold in the shower drain, shower clothes line didn't work, no Boston papers available, coffee poor quality, Starbucks croissants were day old and cost $4+, I had a view over industrial Boston, obstructed by the gym. Even the gym faced away from the water.
Special thanks to Maria at the restaurant, and Roe, the omelette chef for outstanding service. Nothing.
Hotel staff were excellent, helpful, and very accommodating when there was a mix-up with room assignments. We really appreciated their friendly and gracious service.
Nice Location Room was tiny, outdated decorations, you spend hundreds on a room and they want to charge you $10 day for internet. Stay somewhere else !
Location was close to most points of interest in downtown/waterfront Boston. Large lobby and helpful staff. Clean. Would rather have traded nice large entrance and lobby area for a better room size and traded the standard (double) bed for a queen size. Price for what we received was a little on the expensive side. Hotel claims to be 4 star but it doesn't quite make that level. WiFi should have been included as is becoming standard at hotels of this level
Had to move rooms 3, almost 4, times. The whole situation was handled very poorly until we finally were helped by a manager. Just wish it did not have to get that far... Overall, the hotel is extremely outdated, struggled to control the temperature in the room and the walls were so thin we heard a screaming child all night. Images online are extremely deceiving and lead to a disappointing experience as a whole.
Rooms small. Views terrible. Bathroom really small. If you can, select another hotel. Small. Needs renovations
Location is fantastic--easy walking distance to all the places of interest. Hotel is itself a historical landmark. Room was rather small, no free wifi.
This hotel for the amount I paid was really above my expectations in terms of service. Location is very central to the historic district, entertainment, food shopping. The hotel itself has a rich history and great to wonder through it. Would stay here again.
Not a detail was missed. Truly a 5-star experience!
The staff at the back hotel bar was friendly, excellent and accommodating when the kitchen was about to close in 5 minutes. He even offered to get Guinness on tap from the front bar the Last Hurray. Rooms were clean and they were able to accommodate us with a better view. Bed is comfortable and linens are nice thread count. Decor is classic, wood paneled, gold, red and mustard yellow-- and reminded us of Stephen King's The Shining (where the film was made). Wifi is not included if you book through a third party-- they should change this policy as a courtesy. Drainage in tub was a little slow but this is true of most Boston older buildings.
Although small, the room was comfortable and the shower quite lovely. Plenty of hot water in the morning. A blizzard was expected so I decided to check out a day early, and this was hassle free. I did not ask for the name of the person who helped me with the checkout, but she was very polite and extremely helpful. The door man and valet folks were quick to bring my car and wish me a safe journey. Overall a very pleasant stay and I was able to accomplish that which I was in town for. I found sleep very difficult due to the noise level throughout the first night of my stay, which was a Tuesday. Many drunk people coming to rooms late very loud in the hallway and then one couple in the room next to mine arguing until approximately 4am.
Samantha was great as we were checking in. We were a little early for check in so she said the hotel would hold our bags while we toured the city. She came through on the promise of a room with a better view. So happy with the room that over looked Kings Chapel and Old City Hall. The hotel is right in the middle of everything, easy walking distance to anything. Beds were comfortable. Room was a little small but wont stop me from staying again. No free WiFi.
The historic beauty of the lobby. Desire queen sized beds. The maid inadvertently picked up my husband's tuxedo shirt when changing the bed linen. Although we reported the loss, no one has contacted us since about ever finding it? A disappointed guest :+(
Bath robes were a great addition
a bit isolated from things, was here for a wedding but really not close to transport or much else.
Proximity to river and adjacent to mall. Convenient for getting less expensive breakfasts - au pain dunkin donuts....... Housekeeping for room was so so
I travel a lot for both business and pleasure and I can honestly say that this is one of the nicest hotels ever! The place is beautiful, the food excellent, and the staff bends over backward to accommodate. no negatives
We chose the hotel thinking we had to bring our dog with us and this was pet friendly. Turned out we did not need to bring him. We were so surprised at how nice everything was. Well appointed, lots of little surprises like wine on arrival, reasonable parking that was good for several hours after checkout, everything spotless and tasteful and quiet.
Super location Lovely scent in lobby Great staff - upstairs and down 10am breakfast end. Went for a morning run so ended up at food court next door.
Everything. Starting with the deco going from the confortable rooms and ending with the amazing food.
Clean and friendly
Everything was perfect, like every minute of my stay.
Best sleep of my life
Great location and service was very good.
Convenient location. Clean room. Very helpful and pleasant staff. It's shocking that for the price you pay for a room at a Marriott that Wi-Fi or wired Internet connectivity is not free. Really? Bathroom vanity was very small, too small for two people to be getting ready at the same time. The under-mounted bathroom sink wasn't installed under the granite, vanity top correctly...surprisingly low build quality or QA, again, for the price of a room at a Marriott.
wait staff in Champions was very good shortage of drawer space. lighting was awkward. bathroom was poorly laid out. amenities were not very good
I was very pleasantly surprised at the overall professionalism and courtesy of the staff. The location cannot be beat if you're visiting MIT.
Location to the T- able to access the whole city from the hotel Room was small for price
Close proximity to T stop is ideal. Bed was lumpy, hot water in sink was dangerously scalding.
The location. They offered none of the amenities that typically are offered free at any other hotel I have stayed in. Very low value for the top money they ask for. I won't be staying there again on my next trip to Cambridge.
on the T very basic room for the price
Nice view, good shower, renovated lobby Room was old and unremarkable
All very clean. Great view. Great location 1. Only one drawer 2. No desk or desk chair 3. Lighting was strange. 4. No "instruction" sheet.
Location was excellent. The room was very nice and comfortable. Excellent farm to table restaurant and bar. Although they had a parking garage, the elevator to the lobby was out of order so you had to take the stairs and the stairs lead to outside the front entrance. Very inconvenient if carrying any bags from the car and also because of sub-zero temps that weekend. Also no in and out access for self parking at $40 per night. If you leave you have to pay again.
Everything is within walking distance as I enjoyed a glorious autumn afternoon. I browsed endless rows of books at the Coop, watched rowers glide along the Charles River and ran stairs at Harvard Stadium while the football team engaged in a spirited practice. When I returned to the hotel, the room smelled great. They must have a special scent. I enjoyed the organic soap, shampoo and lotion that came with the room. Henrietta's Table is great for breakfast / brunch, and I highly recommend The Harvest for dinner. A very nice stay.
The Charles Hotel is centrally located in Cambridge, so it's very easy to get around the town. We walked wherever we needed to go and got there quickly and easily. The hotel has several dining options and an actual fitness club, not just a room with some cardio equipment and universal equipment. The wifi works well and the staff were all very helpful. It's pretty expensive to stay here, but we found a good deal on one of the discount hotel sites. I'd return in a heart beat.
Excellent service and superior restaurant. Very friendly staff who facilitated the check in and out as well as the luggage. I was in and out many times with my 7 year old grandson and he was always greeting with a smile. My daughter belongs to your health club and so they are used to going to your hotel. Overall, a well located, efficient and very quiet hotel.
Well decorated rooms. Convenient to Harvard square Officious front desk staff. Being told they couldn't change our departure and charges despite a family emergency because it was our fault we used a third party reservation service. Being told entirely dissimilar rooms were the same. Smelly comforter covered by clean sheets. No coffee maker in room. Ice available only on request from room service.
Best Hotel in Cambridge/ location is perfect
The Charles is a perfect place to stay in Cambridge. It is well located, well designed with contemporary clean lines but still warm, and the Rialto is a fabulous restaurant in the hotel. We had a corner room which was quite spacious which we really appreciated as we were staying multiple nights.
Great location near the center of Harvard Square. Rialto is an excellent restaurant. Regatta Bar is great if you like jazz. Hotel is in need of renovation. New England shabby-chic means it's just a basic hotel in terms of cleanliness and room amenities. Bathrooms are seriously dated and in need of complete redo. Service levels are mediocre. Business center is a joke (1 computer and an attached printer). Prices are very high: you are paying for the location.
The room was very drafty near the windows- lots of cold air coming in
One great thing about Harvard Square is the high energy and bustle, especially when school is in session. What makes The Charles so perfect is that it is a tranquil respite right on the edge of all the happenings.
Location was great with excellent service and nice trait ants around in the plaza
Location, location, location.... Nothing
Nice boutique hotel. Incredibly friendly staff. I loved the high-quality coffee available 24/7 (Nespresso, not K-cups!). Also, water, orange juice, and soda available anytime for no charge.
Heated bathroom floors, reading lights above bed. No gym.
Staff was great, excellent location, great breakfast (not included, at least at my rate). Comfortable room, nice bed, etc. Heating didn't work, on a rather cold night. It was a bit like staying in a tent during winter camping that way. Staff indicated to me that the heating units (they were old school, but I wouldn't have minded if it worked :) are all in process of replacement.
Great value for a roomy and spacious quiet location. I loved the shuttle it can pick you up near the stations but I wish I knew coming in instead of walking there. No real amenities but there are renovations underway. Snacks were only provided on the first night not second.
Friendly staff A bit far from Boston downtown
The hotel was incredibly clean. The fitness center had all we needed. The staff was welcoming, friendly, nice, helpful and very funny. This was a five plus star place for a cheap affordable price. We LOVED this place and we would stay at this hotel again. There was nothing not to like. I truly love how clean it was. It could have done without the "NY parking charge" but as New Yorkers we get it.
Having to pay $35 to park my car. Given location of hotel, how do they expect people to get there other than by car. It is not like the hotel was in downtown Boston. Should be free to Marriott members. Breakfast was o/k.
nice view of boston-- too far to walk comfortably to cambridge
The staff was very helpful and nice. I made a reservation for the wrong night with kayak and they guided me step by step to correct the error without penalty ( even if I already passed to deadline to cancel). While I was on the phone in the lobby the night manager brought a bottle of water free of charge.
The management was fantastic.
That it was being renovated, leading to a messy lobby, busy elevators and noisy early in the morning
Very clean and comfortable. I was a single girl and I needed help with my bags which were very heavy. I called up the concierge and the front desk 4 times but no one came to pick up my bags and I had to lift 3 bags on my own..
Sawing and screwing noises woke me up at 7:30 am.
Staff were pretty friendly. Took 30 mins to find my booking. Rooms and facilities are old and run down. No room service. No beer on tap in the bar (i mean it is Boston) . Breakfast was expensive and poor quality and selection.
Location, next to many "sights" within walking distance and the entrance to the metro line just across the street that can take you almost anywhere. Also a host of dining options in the neighborhood. Rooms were updated but on the smaller side for the price paid. All the staff was courteous and helpful, including everyone. The size of the room, felt cramped. Didn't include free wifi, but the paid version was pretty reliable. Don't know if it was the case in the neighborhood or just the hotel, but the water had an odd taste to it.
The address given to me by the hotel was correct. Tons of hidden fees that are mandatory. Booked a king and was given a queen, with ZERO refund given. Would give this hotel a 0/5 if I could. Slapping travelers with hidden, mandatory fees should be illegal.
The hotel itself was fine. The rooms are very small.
The staff went above and beyond to make sure that I had everything that I needed. Everything was clean and beautiful.
We stayed the weekend and it was really loud. Different groups of people were really loud in the hallways literally ALL night. It was like you were part of a spring break scene all over again.
Trash in the room on the floor on arrival...
Location, facilities Nothing
Beautiful facility. Comfortable. Great food Room was a little small but worked just fine.
Location in Back Bay only redeeming feature. $110 million redo yet very small, noisy rooms. Family was in town for a wedding. A huge Convention was also at the hotel. Noise, noise , noise! Convention goers on our floor had noisy drunken party. Front desk could not deal with them. Offered us new room locations for following night. Our "new" room had no hot water until maintenance was called. Extremely small queen room. Hallways so wide and high, every voice heard in the room. Plumbing noisy and easy to hear voices in next room. Would never stay here again. Too many other quality hotels in the area. Missed the mark with the redo.
My wife and I stayed for a getaway weekend at the Boston Park Plaza and we had an amazing stay. Arriving into the hotel we were greeted immediately by staff and checkin was quick and effortless. The room was immaculate and the bed was comfortable . Before going out for the night we enjoyed drinks in the hotel bar and the staff was amazing. We would highly recommend this hotel
Amenities, seating, microwave and fridge requestable Lack of free wifi. Food and restaurant too expensive.
For one day and night after eye surgery my husband was completely blind. Please give high thanks to the doorman who helped him into the cabs or hotel lobby. After the bandages came off he could again see! Thank you Ma Eye and Ear and Park Plaza Hotel.
The staff are excellent, the rooms very comfortable and the location is perfect, close to the T and right on the park.
Leah at the front desk was amazingly friendly and attentive to our needs! Car service no longer available. Rooms are getting old and a tad musty
The proximity to the park was ideal for my 12 year old golden retriever. She loved all the attention she received in the lobby. The staff were very friendly and accommodating even during the holiday crush. Highly recommended.
very large room, comfy bed, large bathroom, access to Boston highlights. nothing!
Location, location, location. From here it is an easy walk to many fine restaurants, shopping, or for researchers, the NEHGS or the Boston Library (which doubles as an art museum). Little further for the Freedom Trail, but doable if you are used to walking. If you just want to rest and watch the world go by, the Commons is right across the street and at least during the day very safe and family friendly. Caught a late flight but they were more then helpful in storing our luggage and assisting in getting a ride to the airport.
We had a room overlooking Public Garden and it was great. Nice view during the day and at night. Hotel is on Newbury Street and close to nice shopping, good restaurants, Beacon Hill - lots to do. Afternoon Tea is wonderful. We had a suite and they charged us $25 for rollaway bed for our daughter - tacky.
Great staff, from the curb to the desk to concierge and room service--really, really good people. Pricey room service breakfast A toilet whose flush handle was in need of repair
A shower with black mold is gross, even if it is marble. The clock made funny noises about 2am. It wasn't the alarm, maybe a failing battery backup, Thought the maid fixed it, but nope. Only solution was to unplug it. Mentioned it when we checked out. On our last day we left the room for the day we left the AC on to keep the room around 68 deg, imagine our surprise when we returned at 7 pm the room was 87 deg! The AC was no longer functional, and per the "engineer" they sent up the only solution was to open windows. As a result we got to listen to the large air handlers all night. The last day we decided to try the breakfast buffet, the food was okay but certainly not worth the $25/ea! The best thing about this place is the location.
There was a large stain on the carpet and the furniture/appliances were a bit outdated. Location was great and staff was friendly and helpful.
After making arrangements for our kids to stay with friends for the night, my wife and I booked a room at the Taj to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Within hours of checking in, we were startled by loud, raucous music. So loud that we had trouble hearing each other from across the room even though we were 3 floors below. Turns out the Taj was hosting a wedding party in the roof. Management said they were booked and couldn't move us. It was so unpleasant, we ended up checking out that same night so we could get a good night's sleep.
Great location and excellent service. Breakfast choices at hotel where few and overpriced.
Very clean . Beds very comfortable. Room size great. Needs to redecorate, wallpaper , bathrooms old . And staff is really nice but seems like in slow motion.
responsive staff, comfortable and quiet room. Although close to a "t" stop, the immediate area is bleak.
Comfortable boutique hotel in a great location right next to the MIT Red Line Stop. Excellent breakfast. Nice 7th floor lounge. Great value! No.
Friendly staff, great location, Wi-Fi hotspot in every room.
It is quiet, especially on weekend stays. We feel we did not really get the "Delux" King Room, but just a regular "King" size bedroom. So we are not really sure if we got what we had booked and paid for.
The hotel, a former firehouse, has a beautiful feel. The very opposite of a cookie cutter chain hotel. The staff were very friendly, and the room was large and comfortable. The location, in the center of Kendall Square, is difficult to park in. The hotel does have a small underground lot (which is great) but the fit is right. Despite a warning from front desk staff, we still managed to nick the front bumper...
Design of the hotel. It is very cosy to stay in. Very slow elevator. Absence of a teapot.
As an old firehouse, this hotel has great character and is a nice respite from typical chain hotels. The breakfast was excellent and afternoon wine was a nice touch. This hotel provides a wonderful experience for guests and is a very good value. Parking was very tight
We went for the 4th of July holiday and felt so comfortable in the small and warmly decorated hotel. Being such a crowded weekend, we never felt overwhelmed due to the hotel being near MIT and no school in session over the summer.
Great location. Spacious room.
The Kendall Hotel offers confortable, silent and clean rooms very close to the Kendall Subway Station.
clean smelling, nice decor pillows, lighting
Fantastic rooms - incredibly comfortable, large and provided everything we needed. Great location - right near the subway and 10 minutes maximum from either Harvard Square or the centre of the city. Very generous buffet breakfast and above all, a wonderfully courteous and friendly staff. This is a comfortable and extremely well run hotel. We will definitely be returning! Our only criticism (and it is small) is that the restaurant in the hotel was a little expensive and had a rather restricted menu. However, given the huge range of other places to eat and drink in the vicinity this was not a problem.
Location, home-like. Price indicated when booking did not match actual price. Room was oppressively hot, and too small for a queen sized bed.
The staff was wonderful. It was a pleasant surprise in the midst of Cambridge.
The breakfast was very nice. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Very pleasant all around.
Quiet, proximity to Harvard campus
The shared bathroom was very clean and well-stocked. There was more than one bathroom on my floor, so each room is just steps from the bathroom and I didn't encounter any waiting situations.
The location and the price. It is not really close to subway stations. If you are carrying large/heavy bags you will need a taxi.
Breakfast and snacks were great. Nice community atmosphere.
The beds were comfortable and the TV large. I liked the free wireless. The first room offered was extremely small. Also, there was a musty smell to the room we did have.
A nice and warm place - particular the dinning room where you can always go and get a cup of coffee or even a piece of cake. The room is small, sound insulation not very good, and the bed a bit too soft.
I liked the location near Harvard Square. I enjoyed the breakfast, which had some tasty items such as hard-boiled eggs and delicious little pastries. I also thought the staff was helpful and friendly. Finally the free WiFi was a nice perk, which came in handy because I brought my laptop. My room was tiny, and I needed to walk into the hallway to use the bathroom. Definitely felt like being in someone's house, which can feel a little awkward when you are surrounded by strangers.
The staff were cordial and efficient. The guest house was well maintained and nicely appointed. Everyone was extremely helpful. The room was small and expensive. Sharing a bath can prove problematic.
The customer service was outstanding! So professional and attentive. Can't wait to go back! I can't say anything but great things .
This was a much nicer hotel than I expected for the money I paid. We were traveling with two children and had no problems. Everyone, especially the concierge was friendly and helpful. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from Quincy Market and the Aquarium. The Italian North end is just a little further. Great overall experience. The only downside was the parking at the hotel was extremely expensive and was valet only. I'm sure there were other less expensive options nearby, but we didn't want the hassle of driving around the city with two crabby kids in the car.
Good upmarket hotel at reasonable price with helpful & friendly staff
The best part was necessarily the SPA, gym and swimming pool which can make a major diffrence in any hotel stay. The staff manning the cafe and restaurants clealry requires more experinence and effectiveness.
the rooms size and style
Staff very helpful Considering the cost of the 3 rooms (we had a family group of 9), I would expect a complimentary abbreviated breakfast offering. I walked down the street for coffee.
Didn't like how the website advertises a pool and spa but they have neither.
Couldn't ask for a better location. No free wifi. Only basic tv channels.
The service was great. The staff caters to your every need. The room was very comfortable and provided a nice view of the city.
No pool due to renovations...not mentioned when reservations were made...not explained when checked in...
You can get to Copley Place and the Pru without going outside so weather is not an issue. Lots of restaurants nearby including Eataly. Symphony Hall is walkable. You can also walk down Newbury Street to the Public Garden. Hotel is small enough that you're not overwhelmed by people everywhere like the Marriott nearby. Parking is expensive! No coffee/tea in lobby - just in room.
The Westin is located in the heart of Boston with easy access to public transportation, restaurants and shopping. Great location for business travelers. Customer service was also great. Definitely worth checking out for your next business trip!
Location Staff was inattentive and seemed bored. I arranged for a crib for my room for my son and upon arrival, it was not in the room which was hugely inconvenient. I had to call to have it brought up. Also, wifi should be free in this hotel.
Arrived in Boston just in time for a heavy snowfall accompanied with a vicious wind. Being from snowy Colorado I was well aware of fast changing weather conditions. The Westin staff were also aware and took on the opportunity to show off their talent. These people know how to take care of customers with their great service, personalities and that always lovely humor. I'll be back!
The shower kept running hot and cold and I could not set a temperature that was relatively consistent
An excellent Boston experience all around
Location, very comfortable bed Bathroom too small, water with very low pressure
What you would expect from a Westin. Clean, fairly modern rooms, big TV, complimentary bottled water, coffee and tea. It's connect by skywalks to other malls so you can get to many places without even hitting the street. Had little interaction with the staff but they were all courteous and efficient.
