Location was wonderful, room was clean Hotel was dated. Too expensive for what we got. Upon return to our room we discovered our AC was not working. Front desk sent up a tech but he couldn't fix it. So they gave us a fan.... No one from mgmt contacted me and no apologies. Just nothing. I paid less for my room at the beautiful La Cantera the night before.
Rooms clean. Easy access to riverwalk. All employees helpful and friendly Nothing
Front desk staff were exceptional as were housekeepingfolks as we travelled through the hotel.
Great location. Beautiful hotel
Room was nice and orderly. Friendly staff. Couldn't get the room cool enough. Didn't sleep very well due to the room not being cool enough. Very humid.
The view of the room was amazing! Enjoy time on the top level pool with an amazing view of the city. Construction on the second floor during the day.
The location right on the riverwalk is excellent! Hotel is very nice and staff is very friendly! Would definitely stay again in the future. My only compaint about the hotel is the cost of parking. Valet parking is $40 and self parking is $30 per night. Very expensive. If you stay a few nights parking ends up costing you as much as an additional night's stay.
Fabulous location, very friendly staff who were very accommodating. Excellent bronch every morning. Wait staff in the restuara to were friendly and helpful. Room was a reasonable size but bathroom was a little bit worn. On the one day we forgot to leave a tip, the cleaning staff did a less than adequate job cleaning the room.
Convenient to Alamo & other attractions! Easy entry!
Centrally located in Downtown, you are minutes from most sites and right on the scenic river walk. Nice and helpful staff will greet and assist you. sound proofing. With construction across the street waking you up at 6:40 am, easily hearing the conversations of others in the hall ways and flushing of toilets, sleep was easily disrupted. shower tub and carpet had stains/not fully cleaned. bathroom fixture groves had visible dust collected. really small pool, not sure if its that i'm from Miami, Fl where there is many pools. its about the size of the elevator hallway and maybe 4 ft deep.
Staff extremely friendly service great location great
Hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, exclusive access to the Alamo and Riverwalk
Housekeeping was fast. Location on the river walk was very convenient. The room and bathroom were very small. There was also a very strong scent of perfume that was overwhelming when you walked into the hotel. We noticed it every time we came into the hotel during our stay. It was almost nauseating. Parking was expensive. It was the week of Thanksgiving and the front desk seemed to be severely understaffed.
Hotel had lots of activities planned for families and kids, including egg hunt and wake up call by the Easter bunny. Super friendly staff and very clean. Excellent access to the mall and food court area for those that like different tastes on a budget, but also quick access to very nice restaurants as well. Some of the activities were at the other Marriott across the street
The hotel was great and the staff was nice as well by accommodating you with the services and room. We had a great view and we could just walk downstairs to the river walk. The river walk was close but the places we wanted to go to were further than expected. Overall the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter was great especially since it has a mall right down stairs. I did not like that you had to pay for parking. Your paying a price you would think that that would be included. Also there was no mini fridge in the room for food.
How close it was to the river walk. The smell on our floor and room size.
Location, easy to find, by riverwalk. Oh, the people working there, OUTSTANDING IN EVERY ASPECT! Nothing, would stay there if the prices were better!
Near Convention Center. Bathroom was not clean.
Beautiful view. Very peaceful. Didn't realize there would be 60$ charge for parking
Everything, but the outdoor smoking areas were in direct sun or behind pool area that had no air.
The room was small and we couldn't even upgrade
From the complimentary brunch at Ruth Chris, to the friendliness of the staff, i am impressed everytime i come here.
I didn't like that when checking in they ask for my credit card again after I had already paid $857 online. Not knowing that valet was not included they kept trying to swipe different amounts to charge and blocked my card for suspicious faudulent charges. Terrible communication cuz they could've asked me what card I wanted to use, nothing. Also valet customer service was horrible while my sister was arriving in her vehicle with my nephews she asked for help carrying her luggage off and was ignored by valet. He could've called someone for help, but definitely not worth the money, never again
Very nice accommodations. Breakfast buffet was understaffed, was not explained properly
The service from the hotel was very much as I would of expected. As soon as in pulled I to valet, the valets were very kind to not only greet and open the door, they immediately unloaded the car and took me inside to check in. With warm greeting from the staff, I was very impressed with how clean the entire hotel was in addition to the room. Great service and defiantly will be back One if the employees seemed to have a little bit of attitide considering that all I asked for was to have shaving cream sent to my room. Other than that, everything else was fine.
Location was right no the river. Beautiful Lobby Rooms were very comfortable, awesome view of the tower. Valet Parking was $37 + Tax = $40.00!
I loved the location. Steps from the river and the mall. My room had way too much wear and tear. The head board was all scratched up. The tub has cracked and rusted and was clogged up the water would not drain when i took a shower. The door handle was at 5 o clock instead of 3. The room did not feel like a Grand Hyatt room. It felt like i was at a cheap hotel. I suggested to the manager that that room should not be occupied untill it get fixed.
Location is adjacent to convention center, staff is very professional and strives to make you feel welcome. Rooms are clean and everything worked. Rooms are dated with sound transmitting walls. Amenities are business travel grade without the higher end amenities expected for the price.
The staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Train noise in the early morning hours outside the hotel and noisy visitors next door and down the hall.
Good location near the convention center and the Irish pub with the crazy and fun piano entertainer. I just can't understand that any hotel in the world today still charge you extra for internet access. is there any other single thing that annoys 100% of their guests as much as this? Just add the cost on the room price and looks like your generous. Now these hotels just look greedy.
I stay here often and I have tried other places it's so luxurious for the money and the location is in the middle of everything!
Location is excellent Beds are quite narrow. Air conditioning went out one night. Thankfully, it was repaired the next day.
The Menger is very historic and literally right across the street from the Alamo. There are lots of things to do that are within easy walking distance that give you the San Antonio experience. The historic nature alone is worth the stay. We didn't get a room in the old, original, historic section. Our room was outdated and in need of renovation.
Ordered breakfast off the restaurant menu. It was high priced and the portion size was small. 1 breakfast taco with sides was $16!
Historical, legendary hotel - also comfortably contemporary ... Plus, the staff at the front desk was polished and helpful. They made us feel they were serious about our enjoyment of the hotel. Would have liked to have stayed another day to enjoy more of the amenities, such as the Menger Bar and its TR Rough Riders connection. Note: You really need a "none of the above" category for the second question on who was in your party -- none of those definitions fit. This was frustrating and I almost didn't write this review, but decided to submit it by checking "group of friends" even though it's wholly inadequate to describe my party, which was me, my sister, and mother, and my sister's boyfriend.
If you want a little history stay, this place is it. This place is great old school hotel with the oldest bar in town. Has a nice pool and inner garden to chill. Nice helpful staff Rooms were clean and large. The shower could have stronger flow and pool service coming around a bit (there is a phone to place order) but that is not a big deal. Location is perfect - Riverwalk starts right here and Alamo is a cross the street Can't open windows in the room (the old bulding) Shower has weak water flow
The hotel's location can't be beat: a block away from the Alamo, a couple blocks away from the convention center, and right next to a shopping mall with a wide variety of restaurants and stores. The staff was very friendly. The room worked for what I needed, but it could have been better. The bathroom was small and was, for some reason, built 6-8 inches higher than the rest of the room. You could hear everything through the walls.
Beautiful hotel with charm and character. So close to everything and convenient for someone on foot/ for public transport/ for tours. Great pool. People working there were very nice - allowed late check out at 1:00pm. A bit noisy at night - one night it was loud drunk tourists, once it was random construction at restaurant in mall next door, & once the fire alarms went off. I don't think it's the hotel's fault though.
We liked the location so much!! Just besides the Alamo, and the hotel is nicely preserved!! You can see the age of the hotel in the rooms! The bathroom was extremely small but usefull. The valet it's on the expensive side!!
San Antonio's 1859 hotel was all it promised. Perfect central location next to the Alamo, and the Menger Hotel itself is rich in history, generously displayed throughout the building. The room itself was just fine, but I am interested mostly in the ambience outside the room (so long as the beds, showers and such are good). We will return. One note of special interest: the maid was a great source of info; cheerful and helpful! The view from the window? - a wall! Next time we will ask for a courtyard or other external, interesting view. Otherwise, all was well.
The historic portion of the hotel is beautiful! Rooms are small, full size bed... but very nice and very clean. I would like to suggest that better quality sheets be used on the bed... sheets were way to big, so they tangled up at your feet. The beds are not the most comfortable to begin with and the sheets only made it worse.
Central Location: Beautiful 150 year old historic hotel, literally across the street from Alamo, Numerous attractions, Riverwalk Mall, Ripley's, Wax Museum, Guinness Records, etc.... Short trolley ride to Historic Market. We used it as base of operations. Bought all-day passes to attractions and walked back to hotel to cool off/swim when needed. Lots of food nearby too. Hotel staff gave great service too. Kids loved all the museum like stuff in the hotel. The bar has a mirror with a bullet hole next to it they say Teddy Roosevelt shot in it on a bet when he was there recruiting his rough riders. Been here several times. It is our 'go to' spot for San Antonio. The parking is very expensive. Thirty dollars per day - but it is expensive in the entire city and you do have unlimited in and out privileges. The hotel is really old so it has a few rough edges. The pool tiling needs a bit of repair, some of the doors stick a bit, the elevators are small, floors are a little uneven and a bit sloped here and there, etc. It has a lot of "character", but I guess refurbishing an old hotel is like restoring an old car, you never quite manage to get all of the rattles out of it.
nice "earthy' atmosphere and location love the suite option very expensive valet parking and no self parking lot poor room service options and other snack options no balconies or windows to open poor ventilation in rooms small pool and hot tub broken
Check In was easy. Hotel room sitting area was actually very comfortable and functional to use, unlike most average hotel suites. Location was great. On the Riverwalk plus just 2 blocks from literally everything. Self parking lots were super close as well, if you don't like waiting for the valet everytime. Hotel desk staff were business friendly, but it did not feel genuine. Which is the opposite of everyone else we met in San Antonio. This was one of the friendliest cities we've encountered!! Also the tub in our room did not drain properly, so you stood in water while you showered and the faucet was loose and spun all the way around.
The room was considerably larger than I expected, with a separate sitting area. Everything was clean, and in good condition. The regular price was fairly expensive, but I managed to get a reasonable rate through Expedia.
Very clean. Polite, professional staff. Wife enjoyed the spa and the gym is very nice. Good location for visiting all of the tourist spots in san Antonio. No hand rails in the bath tubs/shower. Fell twice getting into and out of the shower. Sides of the tub are very high. Too many children running around the halls unattended, noisy. No frig or micro wave in the room. Onsite food and drink is very expensive. Ice machines are far apart on the floors. no vending machines for late night drinks/snacks. Valet parking is very expensive. View was nothing spectacular because of the trees surrounding the hotel.
Location and large size rooms Issues with hot water and terribly slow and incompetent valet
THE staff was very accommodating and very nice. Everything was provided before I would ask for it. Overall, a great experience . Love the old Spanish charm that the hotel is made off. Very charming ambiance. The session that I attended in San Antonio finished every 2230 in the evening. I did not like that the hotel restaurant is close early like around 2200. I wish the restaurant is open 24 hours. I also wish that there is a Starbucks inside the hotel for the convenience of all the hotel guest.
Made a special stop at the river walk on our five day trek from Pittsburgh to puerto Vallarta Mexico. Stopped to enjoy the beautiful view and exeperience the river walk. The resort was absolutely gorgeous. Unique with design, very friendly conceierge, and beautiful room layout. Our one and only critique, and rather silly at that, after pulling in with our vehicle and stopping at the front valet, the attendant seemed almost shocked when we said, yes we would like you to park the car, and replied with an almost doubtful "are you sure? Wouldn't you like to hear the prices?" Though I'm sure he was just trying to do his job and avoid later frustration, the tone in which he asked us the question was borderline offensive. Young man if we can afford to stay where we are staying we certainly assure you we can afford to park.
very clean, great location, friendly staff,
Cyn from the front desk and Michael at the concierge desk were fantastic! They helped make my stay amazing!
The staff was very friendly and accommodating! The fee for parkig at the hotel was ridiculous, $36 per night.
The suite was great - nice sitting area, spacious bathroom, good bedroom and everything worked perfectly. The hotel's location is directly on a loop of the riverwalk which is good because it puts you right into the attraction, but is not on the main section so it's much quieter and easier to find a dining place. Parking is available across the street from the hotel and the street itself is not as busy as those nearer the Alamo. Parking at the hotel is a ridiculous $36/night and they charged for two parking spots for our two motorcycles even though we actually had both bikes consolidated out of the way in the valet area not even in the parking garage. That was irritating. The hotel staff were polite but very cold and decidedly unfriendly. Don't believe I did anything to be offensive or difficult - I didn't even argue about the parking issue - but all of the desk staff (two in the evening, one in the morning) gave the impression they had much better things to do than speak with me.
The front desk staff was unprepared and it to over 45 minutes to check in
Location Staff was very unhelpful and place was really dirty and loud besides the room because it was under construction.
We really enjoyed our stay.
The staff was great. Food was good. Great location The hotel in under renovation and it didn't look as nice as it have looked. I realize is an older hotel and it's good that they are renovating. Just wished I was there after renovations were completed. I was not aware of construction when I booked.
Close to Riverwalk, Alamo. Good breakfast, Service Despite rebuilding activities a good stay is possible. Compensated by excellent free lunch for two Warm water shower not on temperature.
Location was great and the staff that was working was excellent This was not up to Wyndham standards. Was still under construction which was not indicated on the site. Restaurant was temporary and staffing almost non- existent . Things were old and not updated in the rooms.
Friendly staff, excellent sized rooms, convenience of location to major city attractiions, quick response to issues. Shame about the construction, but that is a fact of life re hotel lifecycle.
location is great, staff was friendly hotel is under renovation. any and all pictures you find on line are completely inaccurate or downright deceptive. even the official website shows a hotel that does not look anything like this one. rooms have no soundproofing so you hear EVERYTHING. bathrooms look institutional, ceiling tiles hanging out of the hallway ceilings, etc.... the place is a mess, loud and not very pleasant to stay at. only saving grace was we didn't spend much time in the room.
Air conditioner in the room would not cool below 74 degrees. Too warm to sleep comfortably.
The location. Within walking distance to the Riverwalk and The Alamo. Also many fine restaurants located nearby. Also, the staff was very friendly and accomodating. The hotel is in the process of a big time renovation. There was a slight inconvenience at times because of construction dust and noise and elevator shutdowns.
The only thing we did like was the fact that it might be haunted. I have pictures if globs of hair in the drain and strands if hair on the sink faucet and floor.
Hotel had large rooms very clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly
We loved the hotel. It was very beautiful and clean. Even tho they were renovating we didn't hear a thing. The staff was magnificent and always helpful. We will be staying there again. Only if we get a room with a view of the park. Lol
The hotel has a great location on the riverwalk in a quieter area next to the mall. The room we had (handicap) was very large, and the bed was comfortable. The lobby was nice, there was a starbucks in the lobby, and the food at the bar and restaurant were good. This was one of the biggest hotel disappointment I've had in the past. year. I traveled over 200 days in the past year and stayed at quite a few different hotels, so I don't say this lightly. When we first walked into the room (905 handicapped) the bathroom stood out as an eyesore. It was at least 5-10 years past when it should have been renovated. The grout was multiple different colors that made it look like it could be moldy, the wallpaper was peeling from the walls, and there was a general lack of craftmanship in the way it was constructed. The final straw was when I went to take a shower, and the shower head connection was leaking and spraying water in all directions. It wasn't just a loose connection, because I was unable to stop the leak. This is something a guest should never have to deal with at a chain like the Marriott. I asked the front desk to be transferred, but because it was a busy time the only available room was the room below us (805). This bathroom was in slightly better condition, although there were a few cracked and chipped tiles. Although the shower head worked, it was a very low end and cheap looking model. The bigger problem was when my wife tried to take a shower the first night, she was unable to maintain a constant water temperature. It would alternate between cold and very hot. She showed me how red her feet were, and I can only imagine what sort of a problem this could pose to an elderly or handicapped person. The other problem was the terrible tv reception while we were trying to watch the sugar bowl in our room. It would constantly blur or pause, making it nearly impossible to watch the game. Fortunately or unfortunately, the reception on the large tv's at the bar was fine. In summary, this is not the type of property I would expect for a Marriott. For the time around the new year the value wasn't bad (just under 200) however I would have preferred to spend 50% more on a room that looked like it had been renovated in the past 10-20 years. In the past year the only time I have experienced bathrooms in this sort of condition were in $50 rooms in towns with less than 5000 people. Buyer beware.
Location Could not think of anything we did not like
Everything I think the parking at $30 a night is a little too pricey.
The view from the room was fantastic! The location is also great! The room felt like it needed to be steam cleaned with bleach... The room appeared to be updated sometime in the early 2000. But has not been maintained well. The bed was as hard as the floor. The shower head was loose and the bathroom smelled of old urine. We ordered Breakfast to our room the first morning. The breakfast was good and when we where ready to leave for the day I called to let the staff know so they could come up and clean our room. We where gone the entire day and come back to the same mess we left that morning... At 250 a night plus 30 a night valet parking This should have never happened. That night I went to drink a water bottle the staff provides for you in the room and there was no seal on the lid on either bottle. The cleaning person didn't even bother to change our water bottles. just filled them up with tap water and called it a day. If you are looking for a clean room with basic hotel services I would look past this place!!
Valet was $35 ...should have been included with hotel
Location is great right in the heart of San Antonio next to the Alamo. Room was clean but very small. Trying to reach front desk and room service repeatedly at night and no answer. Finally answer and the late night food was just quickie microwaved crap. We couldn't even eat it.
Although I was stuck with the smallest room they have it was still cozy and comfortable. Also they were also low staffed but despite that they were still friendly. I thought the valet was overpriced and they should at least allow one free parking per reservation
Was impressed by everything... I think I heard some unexplainable noises during the night ... Nice location
Cookie!!!! Wife liked cookie!!! It was a very nice experience me an my wife enjoyed it greatly No microwave in rooms or fridge.
This hotel was very nice! Our room was ready when expected and they placed us with a corner room with a great view, for no extra cost. Staff were great and the check in/check out process was so simple! The location could not have been better for the main attractions, such as the Alamo and Riverwalk. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.
Great location. Comfortable view. Parking was difficult. I wish the stay came with parking instead of having to use valet. I had to pay for valet and to park right outside each day as I have to have quick access to my car. Although it was a nice hotel, I won't be staying here again.
Location, location, and location! Hotel is right across the Alamo with plenty of cheap public parking around the area. Also, the warm chocolate chips cookies from the front desk are a plus. Outdated hotel facility and Kayak's incorrectly rated hotel stars do not match the overpriced money for my stay.
The location was great. Short walk to the convention center, riverwalk, alamo. The staff was also very friendly and nice. The building is old and the rooms show it. My first night there was a some fan, or machinery noise that made it impossible to sleep. I was able to switch rooms that night which was nice. One morning I had no hot water. The staff listened, but didn't seem concerned about it. I only had one breakfast at the hotel restaurant, but it was quite underwhelming and definitely not worth paying for.
The staff was great. The rooms were clean. Even when house keeping forgot to clean our room twice, they sent someone over immediately to clean it up. The breakfast attendants were super friendly, especially Rudy. The breakfast could use better variety of fruit and swich the sausage with ham once in a while. The pool was so cold, I thought icebergs were forming.
Location Bathroom was filthy, the food in the restaurant was terrible
- At $230 a night it was a below average hotel.
By far the best hotel and spa in San Antonio. Extremely polite and helpful staff.
Good location, generally nice hotel. A number of cleanliness issues- -Blood on the sheets (not kidding- blood on the sheets) which we had to have changed at 11PM as we were already ready for bed. -previously opened water bottles in the mini fridge...
The service was top notch.
The Bathtub was VERY nice and clean!
Very friendly and helpful staff The jack hammering and the broken elevator were a pain. The hotel lobby was under construction. Our view was of a boarded up building and a bank parking garage.
Rarely does a hotel exceed expectations in both service and accommodations. The Watermark Hotel & Spa has. Twice now for me. Bravo. It's the only hotel I will stay in when visiting San Antonio.
1.The comfort and decor of the rooms and lobby; 2. the valet staff was excellent; 3. we enjoyed the restaurant on the Riverwalk; 4. I was pleased to receive a phone call from the security dept upon our return informing us about an item we left in the room and appreciated the offer to mail it to us; 5. the butter cream solution you gifted us with upon our arrival along with the glasses of champagne, were a welcome treat. 1.valet parking rae of $32 per day would dissuade us from staying there again; 2. the dirty champagne glasses from our stay the first night were never removed from the room during our two night stay; 3. I made arangements to have my hair done with the same stylist who had done my daughter's hair but she accepted an appointment with someone else which prevented me from getting my hair done for the wedding I was attending
