The flight on Austrian airlines was quite comfortable, good food and entertainment for the long flight. Boarding and deboarding all very smooth. Minus: "Thunderstorm at Zurich caused delay of our flight into Zurich, and we missed original connecting flight to USA. Many other travelers affected and there were no other flights that day. One wonders if they could have held the flight for one hour or so to allow everyone to make the flight. There was a huge line, 2-3 hours of waiting, at SWISS transfer desk to rebook. It took another 2 hours to locate our luggage. I believe SWISS were required by EU regs to provide overnight accommodations and meals. But the hotel was 30+ km from the airport and we were not confident we would have transport in the morning to make our rebooked flight. Because we could not take the chance already being delayed by a day, we booked an airport hotel at our own expense. Overall experience of the missed connection was negative based on the airline's (SWISS) procedures, but the individual SWISS staff helping us were all helpful and made extra effort to accommodate."

Plus: "After almost completely adapting to the spartan amenities of US domestic airlines, my recent SWISS flight had a too-good-to-be-true quality that rendered my travel companion and I giddy with delight. My dinner (one of three food services) consisted of chicken, potatoes, steamed broccoli, salad, a dinner roll with butter, gruyere, and a strawberry tart... included cream and sugar signaled an inevitable coffee service. This was accompanied by complimentary wine and sparkling water, and heavy-weight stainless cutlery. The seat reclination was good, and the in-flight entertainment was a cut above. Coming off many Frontier flights with pay-for-beverage service, no leg-room, and un-reclining seats, it was about as good as coach can get. I'm actually looking at SWISS routes first before I plan my next vacation."

I was telling a friend today, Swiss Air started with drinks, gave us a Parisian baguette sandwich, gave us a healthy breakfast of yoghurt warm croissant butter jam orange juice, drinks again, and several passengers surrounding me got special attention, one woman with a baby, a disabled person, and a teenager that was 6'5" was relaocated by the flight attendant without him even asking to a bulkhead seat for more comfort. You don't see this kind a attention to detail on any US flights or US airlines, so I noticed it. It was as if I was traveling back in the 70's or 80's when Airlines would compete for our dollars with their service. I mentioned to my friend that if I had a choice and Swiss Air was one of the choices, I'd choose Swiss Air over any other airline."

He got our luggage right from the cargo, drove us to another man who stamped our passports, and then drove us to the plan just in time for takeoff. It was incredible service and everyone was super friendly. We so appreciated them making sure we caught our connecting flight!"
Minus: "1stly the lady at the check in was not nice [ i should have gotten her name -] she was rude and quite 'authoritarian' which is uncalled for- when you have paid an expensive ticket are just trying to check in. then I checked an extra bag - and could not pay where i checked in. i had to go to another counter to pay - there was a line and it took a good few extra minutes - and i still had to get thru security. if you can pay at the check in counter this would avoid this extra step. i was really not happy about it swiss air needs better efficiency and better customer service"

There is no possible way for anyone who isn't seriously sedated to sleep or even sit for any extended period of time in what amount to slightly cushioned coffins. I literally spent an hour in the toilet trying to fall asleep because at least in there I had room to extend my legs. At least in there I could actually breathe (the ventilation system is totally inadequate for anyone sitting near the windows and results in horribly stuffy and uncomfortable air.)"

Det enda som var ok var att de svarade snabbt på telefon följande morgon - men meddelade inte som man sagt den nya bokningen via sms eller mail!"

But they were so disorganized about the process. When trying to reclaim the devices after the flight utter chaos ensued. That was their fault. Passengers were on the verge of violence and it could have been avoided by simply being more organized."

The crew told us such Boeing 787 international flights in Hainan airline was used to run China domestic lines and the entertainment system was ruined by Chinese older passengers who do not know how to use it, but this sounds like a really stupid excuse for what happened, because there is no visible damage to any hardware of the entertainment system. I’m not suggesting taking Hainan airline until they fix this issue. By the way, on my return flight, my entertainment system works fine, but there is one person who sit in the front row had bad luck. Again, this is not occasional insident, it’s happening widely in this route."

I had business class tickets but was checkin at an Economy counter resulting in my boarding pass not being for business class so when I went in to immigration lines and throughout the rest of the process I did not receive priority that Business class should have received. In addition when I enquirer about TSA preaplroval at the counter I was told Chicago does not have preaplroval at Terminal 5 but in reality passengers with TSA-pre were being sent through the lines without having to take off their shoes and laptops etc. overall the checkin process should have been much more informative."

Great selection of international films from all over the world. Our plane had a dedicated chef (!) preparing food fresh both ways. At the end, she helped with cleanup. Bathrooms were cleaned frequently. Flight attendants were very attentive. Best sleep I have had on a plane"
Minus: "You are not allowed to use your smartphone on the plane, even in airplane mode. Apparently this is a Chinese airline rule. I had downloaded books from the library to listen and read, but could not. However did see some great movies"
Minus: "Because I had to transfer at Haikou, then to Taipei; for the leg between Changsha and Haikou, it is considered domestic. Normally one would assume two boarding passes but only 1 in this case. I think this is the rule there.. Domestic is domestic, international is international. But the guy at the check in counter simply said "just recheck in" at Haikou to get the 2nd boarding pass. But that is the confusion (imagine an airport you have never been but should be no biggie if the signs are CLEAR ). Before landing, I asked the flight attendant about this recheck in process, she had no clue. . Naively, upon arrival at the ground level, I immediately went upstairs to do the recheck in for departure.... Hell, nope. This is ONLY domestic flight terminal building. At Haikou, you will have to take a local airport van from one terminal building to another terminal building. So, asked the ground crew, OK, went out to find the van... based on the sign, I should be waiting "here" for the van; asked again with local workers at the passenger pickup sign before being stupidly waiting, but they pointed at another post that is like 40 meters away saying you wait there, that is where the van will be (totally no sign at all; and it was indeed later where the airport van will be). I was wondering, at least I speak Chinese so I can figure out the info. If a non-Chinese speaker, he/she might have a lot of hassles."

Minus: "I didn't like that I felt invisible and had to remind the staff for a simple glass of juice. When giving out snacks and food they looked over me several times and didn't even ask after they had served the other two people if I needed anything. I even asked in Chinese. Just was weird and uncomfortable."

Minus: "Long lines in LA as well as Changsha. Checked in online but didn't matter. In Changsha we had to get out luggage and recheck in. It took more than one hour to get the luggages and check-in like new. We stood in line with every one and almost lost our flights. We complained and they directed us to the emergency check-in. That also had many people, most from the same flight. It was unpleasant."

Why can they auto transfer all my luggages from Hainan Airlines to Beijing Capital Airlines? They even didn't mention the transfer process when I bought the ticket. That's too bad."

Minus: "Didn't like being treated like a foreigner in my own country workers at counter talked down to me coz I wasn't Chinese I ask if they can assist my daughter when they land in China to get on other plane said they don't provide that service. Instead of ticketing her all the way my daughter had to get off in China and go to ticketing and get ticket for other flight to Bangkok"

The flight attendants said that their entertainment system was recently updated and they must have forgotten to refresh the new releases and Hollywood movies. Also, they ran out of mango + coconut juice even though their flight cocktail of choice was a Passion Sandy (coconut juice + Baileys)."

Minus: "I really didn't like that I could not use my Kindle during takeoff and landing. First, a Kindle has no affect on an airplane. Second, we were in Europe at the time. Also, we were required to turn off all electronics 45 minutes before landing. That's a long time to sit and do nothing. Also, we were not allowed to use iPhones at ANY TIME during the flight even in airplane mode. What's the point of airplane mode? I couldn't listen to music or watch movies I downloaded. How is an iPhone in airplane mode different from an iPad (which was allowed) and also has 4G capability? I think the airline does not understand how electronics work or it was possibly Chinese law. But if it was Chinese law, why was it enforced in France? The United States changed this rule over a year ago. This really needs to be addressed. Also, during my flights, they ran out of the food I wanted TWICE! I could not eat the terrible choices left to me. The seats on the international flights were too cramped. I am 190cm tall. Why do the seats on the domestic flights have more leg room than a 12 hour flight ? There was no wifi on the flight nor a place to charge electronics. How old are these planes? One of the sinks in the lavatory had no water and was broken. Upon landing many passengers took off their seatbelt and began standing up and getting luggage when the plane was still moving. They should have sternly been told to sit down. During the flight we were told we could get water but they ran out of bottled water. I was given boiling water to drink which burned my hand. The touch screen on the entertainment system did not work 1/2 the time."
Plus: "The service and food was really good. I fly overseas 2-3x per year and it was one of my best flights ever. The 787 Dreamliner is great and shortest Asia to Seattle flight I have ever experienced ( Shanghai to Seattle)."

On the flight back it was rescheduled the night before but not enough time for transfer and so I and many others missed our connection flights and were stranded at the airport for six hours. There weren't enough staff to handle the situation and rebook or help with customers who were clearly stressed and drum up. This was really disappointing."

So we had to wait for 2 hours to check in and get boarding passes so we could go thru security and get to the business lounge. The food In the lounge was very good. The food during the flight was poor. Couldnt plug in my cpap during the flight, so couldn't sleep."

The boarding process was an absolute madhouse with no order whatsoever. The in-flight entertainment was non existent. I was happy to get to BKK and will not be flying via Beijing hopefully ever again."
